Safari gives no error. If I use Firefox two sub-domains also appear to try to download the wp-login.php file when I attempt to log in - but does not do this on the primary page. Is this related\helpful in any way?

FYI for anyone else encountering this same issue: Running the following SQL query did the trick ...

UPDATE wp_usermeta SET meta_key = 'wp_1_capabilities' WHERE meta_key = 'wp_capabilities'

This automatically made all our 726 imported wp users subscribers to blog wp_1. Many thanks to Andrea and Ron for their help!

I need something like Google Adsense Deluxe. I need it to be able to insert paid-for ads, rotated with other ads, but will stop inserting specific ads after a specified number of impressions have been made.

Well now that I see the plugin you're using, it clears a LOT up.

this is not a domain mapping plugin for MU. This plugins makes a SINGLE wp blog answer to more than one domain. It's never going to do what you want.

The only domain mapping plugin available that works with subdomains is in the musupport.net forums in the paid section.

There are Multi-Site plugins that work to do similar, but they turn each domain into a whole MU *site* so users can sign up for a blog under each domain.

FYI: I created a new blog with the name "dashboard" and selected it in the admin options as the dashboard blog. Just confirmed that new users who sign up do get assigned to this blog so they have a profile to access upon logging in with no redirect issues. But alas, even after reimporting all the existing users, they still get redirected upon logging in with no dashboard to access.

At least (for some reason) they now get redirected to the Simple:Press forums page instead of getting stuck in an infinite loop. This is good enough for me.

I appreciate the thought you've put into this for me, but I may just go ahead with this migration for real and see how it goes. I can always just revert back to the old WP install and db ... right!?!?!? [crosses fingers]

EDIT: Setting dashboard blog option field back to the main blog (blank), results in even new users without blogs getting re-directed. Whatever. :-/

Um...I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to do, but you might be able to do it by using my "simple dashboard" plugin.

Thanks again, if only it were that simple. I've tried this without success...

When entering blog id 1 in this field, the field reverted to blank upon saving changes. Leaving it blank is supposed to do the same thing anyway, but imported users were not added as subscribers either way.

So I selected another blog I created (id 2), and only those users I had manually added as subscribers to blog 1 were moved to blog 2. Changing it back to 1 moved only those users back, the remaining 720± users remain in never never land with no access to a dashboard/profile page.

[sigh] I am so close ...

I've worked with up to 5 other plugins like this - they ALL add a menu in the backend. Look under Settings or Site Admin. And possibly the readme file that came with the plugin.

On top of that, you'll need to park your domain on top of your MU install. No plugin can help you do that part.

I'm pretty new to WP & WPMU. I've been developing software for over 25 years, just new to these applications.

I have a MacBook with MAMP installed on it. And I have a domain on a webhost with WPMU installed on it. I've been working on the content of my pages (I want blogs on my site, but my primary interest right now is a number of static pages as I'm just getting the domain & web site built).

I've created a number of pages on my MacBook using the MAMP install (I replaced the default WP install on MAMP with WPMU). I have exported the content I built using the export tool. Now I want to go & import it into the WPMU running on my domain.

My problem is that I want to do this multiple times. I want to edit each page on my local machine and then export it & import it. I'm afraid I'm going to get duplicate pages if I do this. Is this OK or should I just forego the development on local idea & stick with marking up the production domain only?

Thanks

Have you got any member blogs? Or just test ones? I mean, maybe a handful...

It's easier and less error prone to just reinstall. Other wise, you can edit wp-config.php and change vhost from YES to NO, and THEN you have to go thru each sub blog (from Site Admin-> Blogs -> Edit) and change their URLs and paths.
