Thanks. I found it and got it installed.

One (hopefully last) question: Is there a way to set up users without needing to have their email address? With working with students, many of them either don't have an email address or can't access them at school to get their passwords once emailed to them. I'd like to be able to use either fake email addresses or none at all (preferred).

Thanks again for your help.

Now there are two to choose from:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/more-privacy-options/

Official is the repo. :) Just gotta search with the right tags. Gaps get filled rather quickly.

Is there an official (i.e. non-3rd party) site that has the plugins for MU? And does it include one similar to the More Privacy Options plugin offered by the 3rd party site?

the custom header option has been built in for quite a while now. It's not new.

http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/tag-filter/
Pick the header & options page boxes and it will return 104 matches.

If the theme options pages aren't being set on the sub-blogs, the theme designers will have to fix it, plain and simple.

I do know of some premium theme that have the new menu features supported. you may wish to stick with the official repo for now. Most regular wordpress themes will work fine.

With the release of WordPress 3.0, the MU functionality has been integrated, marking the end of the WordPress MU project.

This forum, where we've lived for many a year will shortly become frozen in time. It won't be possible to post new entries here, but it will be searchable and you'll still be able to browse it.

Further queries about WordPress MU and the new MultiSite capabilities of WordPress should be made on the MultiSite forum on WordPress.org.

Thanks for all your help over the years, please mind the step on the way out and don't forget to switch off the lights.

Thanks Andrea.
I did ask got no reply I guess he didn't want to commit to it. I'm having a phpBB Programmer friend that's familiar with phpBB, but not wordpress so its a new learning curve for him. He said he would get back to me. So for now I will allow ads free on add on sites. Having a problem finding 3.0 ready themes no menu support or headersupport yet from any of the theme developers. and the big problem I'm coming across when I do find one they have frameworks or epanels or what ever they call it and they don't work for add on sites to set the options. I want to put the site up already been working on it since 3.0 beta 1 hit the streets.

That's pretty much it. You just have to make sure the names match up with your theme.

The code isn't any I wrote specifically - it hooks into existing functions.

Cheers, that's what I figured. So I tried editing the header.php, by moving the ´<?php wp_head(); ?>´ below the ´</head>´ and under the div i want it to go, but it didn't work. Then I read that the ´<?php wp_head(); ?>´ shouldn't be put out of the ´<head> </head>´ div.

Yeah, that's got nothing to do with the custom header.

Is it in the functions.php where I should reference the image to the div called "right"?

Yes. You're adding custom header image code to the functions.php file.

You're not dealing with the header *file* of the theme or WP itself.

If I turn off access to the plugins menu then Super Admin has access but the add on blogs/site will not have access to plugins.
I did put in a bug report for Plugin Commander and worked closely with the plugin author and another person on getting it to work with 3.0 and a new version was released that works perfect with multisite. It adds a plugin menu in the posts menu for users/site admins to activate or deactivate if the supper admin allows the user/siteadmin to use the plug in. You would have to turn off access to the plugins menu for all this to work that way in plugin commander
What I really need and I have said this before is a switch in the plugins menu to turn access off or on for plugins per Blog/site (I think it should be a core feature in WP 3.0)or to be added to plugin commander. At the moment Plugin Commander just turns off or on for everyone.
I know there is paid solution's for this feature from mudev but I don't have 75 Bucks a month to download and keep it up dated.

Anyone have any ideas what to do?

There's a plugin that allows you to create those Page Tabs as urls to other sites but it;s considered a bit of a security risk here as it;s easy to be abused by spammers.

The link exists in the standard meta sidebar widget. Would that be a better solution for you?

If not, I'll (or someone else) will give you the link. Just realize that if you run an open site, you will have problems.

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to do this using the free Arthemia theme.
I got the backend working, but once I upload the image, nothing happens.

One difference: I'm not trying to change the "main" header. There's a space on the top right - just next to the header image - which was designated as a space for adverts. I want to put a different image for each site in this place.

I noticed that this code (as on Andrea's wpmututorials site) affects this part of the code: ´<?php wp_head(); ?>´

Is it possible to edit the css to anchor the change to a part of the html in "header.php"?

More specifically:

the header.php has this section:
´<div id="head" class="clearfloat">´

and it has 2 subsections:

´<div id="logo" class="left">´
and
´<div class="right">´

and it's the element (an image) in the ´<div class="right">´ that I want to have changed for each site.

Is it possible?

Hi - I am using 3.0 MU updated from 2.9 and previous.

I have thousands of blogs/sites with no users. I have used power tools and other programs to try to delete them, but it does not work.

The blog/sites have Never for posts and users blank. It is very hard to delete through admin 15 sites at a time.

Do you know of a tool to help and/or a tool to not let this happen again.

Thanks,

Sean

Hi memitch08,
I should have clarified that my hosting provider put a file called suPHP (more info at: http://www.suphp.org/Home.html ) into my root httpdocs folder. They also deleted the offending folder for me, as I asked them to. The file suPHP will prevent this problem from occurring in the future.

I'd plug my hosting provider here, but I'm sure that's not kosher ;) I love them though! I've used many (at least a dozen) different hosts over the years - GoDaddy being only the second-worst :P - and after hosting with these guys for a couple of years, I'm well satisfied! I've never had support that immediately understands the problem and provides a fix so politely, quickly and hassle free. I've leaned on them alot and my own skills and understanding have improved greatly thanks to their generous and intelligent support. I'm rambling, sorry... :x

There's a couple links to this thread on the front page of the forums but here's the thread you should read:

http://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic/681

Two step process: The 3 line htaccess addition and blocking the username/subdomain within wpmu/wp. That thread should cover it.

We call it "previous subdomains" around here.

Hope this helps
