chyth - unfortunately your MU site will need to be installed in the root of your server. It's a limitation of how Apache works, the fact that there's no .htaccess file in the root directory redirecting stuff to the wp/index.php (which might conflict with whatever you have in the root), and also that the plugin doesn't allow a path to be entered.

I'll add some code in to the plugin warning the user it won't work if the site's path isn't "/"

@kgraeme - hey, it's not like I can write it out verbatim (yet) ;P

@chyth - could be because your MU is installed in a folder. It's not going to work unless your install is at the root of the main domain.

Update 2: Ok, I changed the permalink settings to "default" and now pages are working fine.
I edited the urls to the images and this works for me as well.

One problem remains: I can't go to the admin panel... I am redirected to the front page of the blog every time.

Seems like the server cannot handle this url:

Update: Looks like I did a mistake while configuring the domain tokio-hotel-tickets.de (linked it to: http://www.livedabeisein.de/wp/tokio-hotel-tickets/) and changed it to "/wp/" because it belongs to the same server.
Now I have the problem that it comes up showing no pictures (because the link to the picture is now wrong - ok, this is easy to correct) and that I cannot display pages (e.g. tokio-hotel-tickets.de/about).

Help on this?

Hello donncha.
Thanks for this plugin. I've tested your dev-version, because my blog is running with subfolders. I have installed it and have serveral domains (all with A records pointing to the right IP Adress and the same nameserver as the main page) but when I now come up using the plugin my browser keeps running and running (e.g. tokio-hotel-tickets.de) and the point out "to many redirects"...
Where is the problem? Can anybody help?

I also solved a problem where my Firefox on my main development machine wasn't correctly showing logged in state for mapped blogs. I could log in fine, but when I viewed the mapped site anything that called is_user_logged_in() (meta widget, for instance) was not reflecting the logged in state.

Turns out as a security thing I had changed the network.cookie.cookieBehavior flag to only accept cookies from the originating server.

So playing with fire, I tried it on my troublesome test server that is a mirror of our production config.

Amazingly, almost everything works! Login/out, posts, etc all good regardless of dm_redirect_admin. What's really odd is that posts on the home blog even work. Dunno why they would work on my "dirty" test server and not the clean one.

WPMU only expects non www style addresses, although it can be modified to support them.

This issue has also been resolved by a quick visit to the Web Optimizer site, which I said I was gonig to do, but should have done it before coming here. Some impression I'm making to the community as a new mu user. Sorry!

The issue was related to double compression from both Hyper Cache and Web Optimizer. I am trying to set my server up to handle the gzipping from now on.

If I change the domain setting specifically for the domain itself by hand, it will work, which accomplished what I currently need. I DO still have the issue with a primary domain, however, so any help would be appreciative.

I've got the domain mapping plugin from WPMUDEV, but theirs doesn't support a primary domain, but they themselves wont support the implementation of such a feature until it becomes 'requested by the community,' but this is something I would like to possibly be able to hack into the plugin on my own for personal use.

In Donncha's plugin, whis is apparently handled now, so I was hoping someone could direct me to the section(s) of code which handle this function. I can work myself around PhP, but I'm no expert (hardly even intermediate if you ask me), but I am hoping to find out how this works. Also, what about the function that handles the old blog name throughout the site, both front and back end, how might I be able to implement this?

I need to do it this route because I believe Donncha's plugin only support installations utilizing subdomains, whereas mine is a subdirectory installation, but thanks for your help.

I've contacted the fellow behind Hyper Cache and found the issue isn't with him; I have yet to contact the developers of Web Optimizer about this, although I am going to as soon as I am done here, but their plugin works fine as well. To clarify, they work find independently from one another, but when they are both used I get this issue.

Here is the scenario: I'm logged in, all is configured properly with both plugins, and my page loads pretty stinkin' fast. But when I log out and refresh the page, I get all this encrypted data (I'm not sure if it is encrypted or not, I just wanna sound smart or something and call it what it looks like to me). If I log back in and refresh again, viola! It's working again. I have cleared the plugins (both of them) cache, as well as my browsers, but nothing resolves this.

Since both plugins work fine standalone, I fear that neither developer will help resolve this issue, but the Web Optimizer plugin suggest the use of Hyper Cache along side with theirs. Check out http://elijahtask.org/ and see if you get the same results.
