Thanks. I found it and got it installed.

One (hopefully last) question: Is there a way to set up users without needing to have their email address? With working with students, many of them either don't have an email address or can't access them at school to get their passwords once emailed to them. I'd like to be able to use either fake email addresses or none at all (preferred).

Thanks again for your help.

Now there are two to choose from:

Official is the repo. :) Just gotta search with the right tags. Gaps get filled rather quickly.

Is there an official (i.e. non-3rd party) site that has the plugins for MU? And does it include one similar to the More Privacy Options plugin offered by the 3rd party site?

Is it a link to an area in the backend? If you're not logged in, it will redirect you anyway.

Get the Page Links To plugin.

Or upgrade, add the new menus options to your theme and build a custom menu.

There's a plugin that allows you to create those Page Tabs as urls to other sites but it;s considered a bit of a security risk here as it;s easy to be abused by spammers.

The link exists in the standard meta sidebar widget. Would that be a better solution for you?

If not, I'll (or someone else) will give you the link. Just realize that if you run an open site, you will have problems.

Hi - I am using 3.0 MU updated from 2.9 and previous.

I have thousands of blogs/sites with no users. I have used power tools and other programs to try to delete them, but it does not work.

The blog/sites have Never for posts and users blank. It is very hard to delete through admin 15 sites at a time.

Do you know of a tool to help and/or a tool to not let this happen again.

Thanks,

Hi memitch08,
I should have clarified that my hosting provider put a file called suPHP (more info at: http://www.suphp.org/Home.html ) into my root httpdocs folder. They also deleted the offending folder for me, as I asked them to. The file suPHP will prevent this problem from occurring in the future.

I'd plug my hosting provider here, but I'm sure that's not kosher ;) I love them though! I've used many (at least a dozen) different hosts over the years - GoDaddy being only the second-worst :P - and after hosting with these guys for a couple of years, I'm well satisfied! I've never had support that immediately understands the problem and provides a fix so politely, quickly and hassle free. I've leaned on them alot and my own skills and understanding have improved greatly thanks to their generous and intelligent support. I'm rambling, sorry... :x

Because that's the wrong link.

"I have learned that MU is different than regular WP which is what I'm running. "

Only by about 5%.

Specifically, that /members/ link stuffed in there shows me you're running buddypress, which is a whole nother ball of wax.

But the login and admin area URLS of Wordpress are exactly the same on every site. MU or not.

Problems with image retrieval in all instances of WordPress I was using (2.9.2 and 3.0) were related to .htaccess files. In some cases, I had been updating these manually.

When I started using WP 3.0, I don't recall being prompted to update rewrite rules but I began testing it before it was released.

Don;t rename the whole themes folder, just the folder for the /typebased/ theme.

That error is because it's pulling a function for a plugin that you just disabled, which is hardcoded in the theme you're using on that blog.

Basically, I'm trying to get you to reset that blog to all the defaults. as if it were a brand spankin' new blog.

your login page is blank because it has an error.
you're getting redirected because you can't login because your login page has an error.

Yes it is quite possibly theme related.

No, I mean when you upgraded from WPMU 2.9.2 to 3.0, you were prompted in the backend to make a change to one of the rewrite rules. Did you do that? It directly affects image retrieval.

Hi Everyone,

I did some adequate searching first and haven't seen anyone post about this yet.

Wordpress 3.0 is installed using multi user configuration. Everything works great (awesome job btw!) except for registration emails. Friend requests/comments etc all work and send out emails to users but the initial user registration email does not. This is the email that sends the password to the user, i actually do receive the admin email saying there is a new user.

Users are not allowed to register themselves and all accounts are created from the backend.

Is anyone else experiencing these issues? If so has anyone been able to resolve this?

Thanks in advance,

So I moved everything from plugins folder to a folder named OLDPLUGS. As I understand it this should disable ALL plugins. I can't find a mu-plugins folder anywhere. When I go here:

I get blank page no redirect. When I go here:

I get redirected here:

So then I renamed theme folder and I get the same thing!

These are the only error logs due to footer trying to call a plugin that isn't there:

Something more like

if user_has_cap .

If they are not a user on the blog, they have no capabilities there (the cap).

note the free download link on the right in the yellow box.

this will give you an options to hide various menus in the backend - like the ones for pages.

Just add it after all the other then.

Also, under site Admin -> Option there's a field there for disallowed blog names. fill in your other subdomains there too.

I am pretty sure though, I was using the newest mu.

The last version of mu was 2.9.2. Then it was rolled into WordPress, which is now at version 3.0.

So, short version - don't use the download from here. :) (Yes, someone will change that page soon-ish)

Hi,

I have been involved in WPMU project and I need to know whether there is an option to hide the PAGES section at the backend for my users.

Let me elaborate it briefly:

For example, if say http://www.creo.com is the main site and if some one say 'fredie' registers on http://www.creo.com , a blog will be created for the users(www.fredie.creo.com) with the default pages.

The default pages should not be deleted by the users from their controlpanel at any time. Is is possible to implement in any way? also I would like to know if there is a plugin to do this.

Cheers,
Creophp
