Though it doesn't answer your question. :)

wp_site contains the following only one field when you install it. It contains the site_id (1), the domain name, of the site, and the path. That's it.

It is only used when you have multiple Sites running in MU. The next site would be 2, with their own domain and the same path.

Sites in MU are different - if you have a site then users can have blogs at that second domain.

If you just want a blog to have its own domain name, then use the domain mapping plugin.

Looks like wordpress MU with a sub-domain configuration and multi-site plugin installed.
food.com = main blog
usa.food.com = sub-blog set to work like another MU site with sub-directory blogs
usa.food.com/texas = sub-directory blog.

Example Scenario. This is what I had in mind and I have yet to materialize my thoughts. Please advice.

Imagine a worldwide food website where users are allowed to contribute posts about what they ate whether if it is today, yesterday, a week ago, etc.

This is how I imagine the structure of the site to look like.

food.com
- is the main global page where news, top articles of the day, recent activities, featured contributers are put up.

france.food.com
- is the country specific page where news, top articles of the day, recent activities, featured contributers are put up.

usa.food.com/florida/post-title
usa.food.com/texas/post-title
england.food.com/essex/post-title
england.food.com/suffolk/post-title
japan.food.com/tokyo/post-title
- is state specific where user written articles are found. Anyone who is registered is able to write a post about food they've enjoyed in any city in the state.

What's the preferred one, Wordpress or Wordpress MU? And why?

Thanks, in advance. =)

Not with the random string. One of the bots ships with a default of google.com and we see that on occasion. Always assumed that the operator forgot to set it or was doing a test run.

It's hardcoded to be an automatic fail on our antispam system as google isn't going to be sending trackbacks from the google.com domain. (All the blogs I know of are on blogspot.com and we've seen this before.)

Plugin Manager should definitely be in the mu-plugins folder. My guess is that default categories should be as well - because if you want it to install categories when a blog is created you can't have it as a plugin - it won't be active when the blog is created.

I am using 4 plugin to apply default settings to all new creating blog
1) New Blog Defaults
2) Default Category
3) Plugin management
4) Default User Role

I want Each new user is the admin of that new created blog with Default plugin auto activated and with default category.

But
1) New Blog Defaults

This works fine

2) Default Category

Only default 1 Category I had mentioned in New Blog Defaults has been enabled for new blog where as in old blog it will added when we first time add default category from SiteAdmin---> Default category

3) Plugin management

I have activate the required default plugins for new created blog. But it will not affect to the all blogs. Only site admin users http://www.aa.com/ can access those plugin
4) Default User Role

This works fine but I had given Admintrator role as Default. This gives user to access my main site/blog http://www.aa.com/ . But not give the access to other admin plugin (Ozh Menu , clutter free design) to perticular user's blog http://www.aa.com/user

The security issues are typically with php code, so when you update the core code the security fixes are there. The update script generally just goes through and makes sure the blog's db tables match the changes.

Stupid question, perhaps, but when it comes to security releases, is it better to try and upgrade every blog or wait till the user next logs in? Or in other words, are idle blogs a security risk?

Hello,
I have a few questions that I need to have answered. First of all how good is wordpress mu? We're running it with buddypress to build a social site. My only concern is that the software will crash if the site is well developed and attracts a lot of members. We have tried every software available out there and didn't like what they offered. We choose word press because of the blog platform. We want our users to have the ability to create professional blogs and wordpress provides that.

We would like to add services, apps, and other features to the core word press platform. Will the software allow this? I haven't seen any site that has used wordpress alone to build a social network site. I have personally seen a site that used joomla and it turned out pretty good. We just didn't like this platform.

Also will wordpress allow clustering when the time has come to do so? We're running on a shared hosting and it works fine. Reading here people are saying it won't work with the hosting companies.

We would like to create a social platform like facebook, myspace, etc... with wordpress. Is this possible?

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

I am seeking someone very familiar with wordpress. ** Please include your top 3 most relevant website links. to this project.

I need you to advise on what is smartest way to doing this without having to redo the exisiting site

Basically for this project, there is an existing website

http://www.asiangayfilms.com/

The objective of this project is to

1. Allow a user generated content element where users can enter their own reviews

2. Preference is to retain the wordpress setup (can maybe update the version)

3. Improve the UI for easy search and navigation + remove revolution template references

4, Install plugin to prevent forum spam (This should be an integrated login)

5. A directory script

6. An ad banner module . Can use google ad manager or something.

Thanks
I looking for someone very familiar with wordpress and have demonstrated experience on what is available. And can even advise us what is the simpliest way to hack up this solution with minimal time. I am find with template layout to reduce customization work. But i would like some proposals that i can visualize the outcome and the associated cost.

http://mu.wordpress.org/

I looking for someone very familiar with wordpress and have demonstrated experience on what is available. And can even advise us what is the simpliest way to hack up this solution with minimal time. I am find with template layout to reduce customization work.

The priorities are as follows :

1. Ability to *add on or improve on the existing website while avoiding an entire revamp of the website. ideally there shouldnt be a need to migrate existing content

2. Priority to allow users to add in new reviews and we just approve.

3. For Ad module i would prefer Google Ad Manager instead

4. For directory script show me what you think is best, let me know how it would look like and how much i have to pay for it. You dont need to customized it from scratch sometimes it doesnt make sense. These are old problems that many have solve and are selling solution that are cost effective and good.

5. Login have all to be integrated.

You can also let me know what features are good to add in, and let me know the costing.

I am familiar with the industry now and i looking at a simple solution that makes sense both for the vendor and us.

But i would like some proposals on how it would actually be what functions and how it would be executed that i can visualize the outcome and the associated cost.

For most people -- even most "national organizations" -- Drupal is overkill. If the primary use of the site is to post content, such as blogs, then WPMU is your best bet. All the other features you might need you can download or have someone code up for you.

If you set $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] yourself before loading up wp-blog-header.php then everything works fine. Set it to the vhost of the blog you want your script to operate on. (If you're using subdirectories you're on your own.)
