"After configuration te screen says it's ok (unless the subdirectories, that may not work), and that i can login.
But I cannot login with admin, i don't know the password."

That status screen gives you the password as well.

If you look in the database, the one you see is an MD5 hash, so you can't just copy & paste it. you can, however, replace it and choose the drop down to MD5 it again. THEN that method works.

After configuration te screen says it's ok (unless the subdirectories, that may not work), and that i can login.
But I cannot login with admin, i don't know the password. So I look in the database the pass (and impossible one), and try it. Don't work
So I change the pass in the database, and it doesn't work either.
Ah! and I've never received any email from the sistem (the email is working), nevermind if i try 'forgot password'.
What could be the problem?
Thanx.

I've been able to get alias addresses setup for the offending addresses so I'm going to settle on that as a much more supportable option rather than hacking Wordpress core as you say...

Got some help on this one from my web host. Turns out that in order to combat spam, they place a limitation on the mail() function that the e-mail address listed in the From header has to be from the domain that they are hosting. That bit of info will hopefully fix my problem.

I'm having a strange issue with WordPress MU in that I can't get it to send confirmation link e-mails, such as when a blog's primary e-mail address needs to be changed, or when a non-site admin invites a new user to their blog. But I know that the PHP mail() function is not the problem, not only because other sites on the same hosting account have no problems with mail(), but because WPMU does send e-mails to the site administrator when new blogs or users are added, etc.

I did search through similar topics on these forums, but looking at the mail() function seemed to be the only answer, which isn't the problem in my case. And someone else suggested the Cimy Swift SMTP plugin, but that plugin isn't working at all for me because it has an "Uncaught exception" error indicating that the SMTP doesn't work, even though I've triple-checked the settings for that plugin.

Would really like some help on this so that I can get the confirmation e-mails working right...

That's going to be down to the sanitize email function which I think is core WordPress.

If you need this to be done, and not have to change your code every time then you'd need to raise it in Trac.

"&" in email addresses is really a "Maybe" as they are not excluded in the formal spec for email addresses but neither are the actually included.

Hi,

I'm wanting to allow distribution lists to be created as users in my WPMU install to do do email notifications to a number of users on new posts.

The notification stuff is working great with the Subscribe2 plugin, but I've hit a snag in that some of the distribution lists have an ampersand (&) character in them... Wordpress appears to convert this to 'amp' so presumably email notifications won't be received...

I say 'presumably' because I don't want to test by mailing a heap of people with one of these lists ;) but it doesn't look like wordpress has 'escaped' the &, how would it know to turn amp into that, what if my email really was amp@xyz.com...

So has anyone dealt with this and can advise a way around? My first thought is to just put the & back in the db, but I don't know if that will break queries made on the field as I am unsure of the level of escaping done on queries...

Thanks,
JM

You cannot go through the signup supplying an email address of an existing user. If the user is not logged in when going through the signup WPMU creates a new user and a new blog.

As a site admin you can create a second blog for that user under site admin -> blogs. That, and what andrea_r described are your 2 options.

My questions is, does anyone know who I can talk to at WP or WPMU to get this changed?? No one seems to respond to my email inquires...as if no one's home over at WP. Just everyone at the forums.

To be honest 99% of that is outside of WPMU. You need to set up a virtual domain with wildcard forwarding in your email server . Or that's how I'd do it so there is no creation of email addresses by your code. Postfix can do it very easily - you'd need about 4 lines of configuration to implement it. (in fact I just did it and its 3 lines in total, two files to edit and one postmap command)

All you need to do then is process the single email file that contains all the email for the virtual domain, and then cross check the sender email and the destination email address to confirm that it is a posting. You might want to include the use of a keyphrase (or a number) which is generated by the user as a double check (which is how LiveJournal do it).

I want to setup a post-by-email feature on the site, but I want to avoid giving every user the same email address to send to for security reasons. My ideal scenario would be to give every user something like username@mysite.com where every address just forwards to a single address that WP is scheduled to check. Then I validate by matching the sending address against the original sent-to address and I'd be set.

But I can't figure out how to create email address automatically on my server. Any know how I'd go about doing that? Thanks for any help or direction!

I'm getting the spammers walking right through the banned domains list as well. I employ the 3 listed techniques (heck, I wrote one of them :-) ) but they just walk right through like the banned domains list isn't even there.

Biggest offenders are
myspace.info
myspacee.info

both of which are in my banned domains list. I keep getting people creating accounts and blog sites using email addresses from those domains (and a handful of others).

(update: just looked - I had an installed but not active copy of BBPress. I've just nuked that to see if they were somehow using it as a back door).
