Can you post a link to the feed in question please? Without seeing it, all we can do is make guesses.

Last time I saw this issue, the poster had their feed set to use the_excerpt and some plugin was interfering and wasn't having the tags closed correctly.

Simply, if I have http://www.example.com domain and install MU in a directory say http://www.example.com/mu, how do I then go and create a blog from the MU dashboard and have that particular blog as the blog that appears when visitors head to http://www.example.com ?

I've tried installing MU in the root of the domain, but the blog that it creates seems to be an umbrella for other blogs? Or am I missing something?

I'm experienced with WP, but just getting a handle on MU and looking to use it for the new year.

Hope that makes sense?!

The db connection for mu should be setup the same way that you setup your original wp scripts. Definately double check your user and password when you setup the db. Also, make sure to give the user full permissions to the db.

Also, if an install has failed then it has already created the wrong config file. I suggest deleting the config.php file and starting install over. If that doesn't work try deleting all files, uploading again and starting install over.

As far as subdomains for wordpress mu the main mu domain needs to accept wilcard enries. This means that anywordher.maindomain.com would work if setup as a blog.

I don't think go daddy give you access to httpd.conf files an the ability to edit the dns whichis necessary.

I suppose that if the error is about "establishing database connection" then the issue is with the godaddy mysql server, have another look at the full domain name and path to the database server. Post it here if it helps.

Yes, that's what it does. They have to register for a user on the system before they get added to a particular blog.

The signup page in MU is for users as well as getting a blog.

Hi,

I am looking for a way to allow users to self-register to a particular blog.

I have a WPMU installation set up, I have created a blog and I have allowed self-registration.

On my blog there is a "Register" link:
http://mydomain.com/jeff/wp-login.php?action=register

But when I click it, I am redirected to this page:
http://mydomain.com/wp-signup.php

What's going on? Is this a bug, or is this intended.

I really want users to be able to register for my blog, not necessarily to create their own blog.

I have found this link, but I don't want to hack functions.php
http://www.thinkinginwordpress.com/2009/11/tweaking-the-registration-link-at-wpmu-login-page-to-point-to-buddypress-registration-page/

Hey, WP Community!
I want to replace my wordpress installations with one WPMU installation and I got a problem:
I installed WPMU to example.net and I want to set up a blog on domain2.com. First I set up blog2.example.net and changed the blog url in WPMU to domain2.com. That worked, but login won't work. I can enter correct information, but it always redirects me back to the login page. If I enter wrong information, it tells me that the password is incorrect, but with correct information nothing happens.

I just set up another blog (blog3.example.net) - login works and I installed this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/ (WordpressMU Domain Mapping).
I mapped a domain to this blog and - same problem. Login won't work.

Maybe it's a problem with cookies? Does someone know how to fix this problem?

Thank you!

I currently have several instances of WP running on Hostgator. As MU won't work from a subfolder on HG, I have decided to sign up for a second Hostgator account so I can start from scratch, building the MU site in the root and migrating the blogs in at my own pace. Once the new site is built, I was planning to simply point my domain at the new account.. et voila.

I was planning to edit my hosts file so that I see the 'new' site - to avoid having to change URLs in the database later.

Just wondering if this is the best approach, and if there is anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks andrea.
Yeah, I may have to wait until we go live to see if the plugin works with MU fully.
I guess it makes sense that the site's plugin is allowing it to see data on the outside, but maybe presenting this data on the inside only is causing trouble.
Maybe I'll try some similar tests, like SmartYouTube, to see if the firewall/setup is restricting my plugin.
I'll report back and let you know.
Sincerely,

Hello all,
I am a bit new to MU and have a few blogs up and running.
Today, I tried to use an old favorite plugin of mine, the Wordpress Flickr photo album plugin developed by Joe Tan (tantannoodles.com).
The install went smoothly, but when inserting Flickr content into a test post, I can't seem to click on the album icons properly.

Usually, when clicking on an album or "set" you get the set's title along with some other general info and a link to "view this on flickr.com". I don't get this information when clicking on an album/set and when clicking on "insert into post" no source code is generated inside of the post.

One useful bit of info on my setup is that my blogs are currently on a development server that is not viewable to the public. Could having this new server environment behind a firewall be keeping me from importing content into blogs/sites with the Flickr plugin? The plugin does see the albums/sets within Flickr and clicking on the various tabs in the pop up dialog box for the plugin shows other desired content, ex. "everyone's" photo streams.

I'm just wondering if that's the kink in all of this.

Any help or advice with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

If WordPress? MU Domain Mapping plugin installed, and user mapping domain for him/her blog, in Dashboard the Category, Tags create, remove, edit not work, if the user is use the mapping domain (blogdomain.tld/wp-admin).

In the /wp-includes/script-loader.php file, line 107 the 'url' => admin_url('admin-ajax.php') is write to the html this: http://blog.domain.tld/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php

I have the requisite wildcard DNS, separate database, and deluxe hosting. I used the built-in FTP client to upload it to the html directory. When the install would start to work, I would get an "error establishing database connection" and then a 403, 404, or HTTP 500 error screen.

I have single user WP's on separate databases, so I don't think the problem is there. I admit I am dumb when it comes to stuff like this, so please walk me through installing this thing. It is greatly appreciated.
