hi to the community! Hope i find an answer here...

My problem: i installed WP MU together with some mu-plugins (supporter, all in one seo, and some more) in german language.

I also uploaded some plugins into wp-content/plugins for the users.

now i can activate and use the plugins from wp-content/plugins in the admin-blog, but when i want to activate these plugins inside a user-blog then the message "activated successfully appears" - but after the next click the plugin is deactivated again.
this happens with any plugin from wp-content/plugins

Does anyone have an idea or can point me in the right direction how to solve that problem?

thanks a lot

How I hide the original (blog.domain.tld) URL fully, at the domain mapped blog (I use Domain Mapping for WordPress MU plugins)? eg.: the template_url no replacement to the mapped domain.

andrea_r you get where I coming from but I want to host the blogs without being any god-like figure. And I would like to be able to have plug-ins added by the hosted only available to the hosted, what I actually don't understand is why each blog doesn't have it's own wp-content folder, that would be absolutely what I'm looking for.

If the blogs are only added by you, then you can add the plugins the users need.

I'm assuming it's a closed system with reasonably trustworthy users. But, like was stated above, if a user adds a plugin, it is then available to ALL users. And some should really be tested before being used in MU.

Do you still want them to add plugins? :)

So there's no easy way to have this and if I can't hack a way around it I should just keep it the way I have it because you're really getting with MU is one WordPress blog and a load of not-quite-WordPress-blogs.

I can't be the only one who things this rather defeats the point of having MU at all.

It probably depends on the plugin itself and how it stores its status info. The best way to know for sure is to test it out on a test install.

(2.8.5.2- with plugin commander installed)

Just a quick question,

If I update a de-active plugin from the main site but on some of the sub sites the plugin is active, will the plugin that was active on the sub-site be deactivated now?

example:
1) Plugin X is active on sub1.domain.com
2) Plugin X is not active on domain.com
3) If I am in the control panel backend for domain.com (the main site) and I update Plugin X, (where it auto deactivates, removes then installs the new version) after the update it doesn't reactivate it on domain.com since it wasn't active to begin with.

4) So, now, is it also deactivated on sub1.domain.com where is was active?

Thanks in advance for you help!!

That's a really odd way of doing things. I thought the idea of MU was to have multiple blogs with the one installation. Is there no way of partitioning the blogs in a way that would achieve that?

See, the thing is that if blog admin A adds plugin X, he's not just adding it to blog A. He's adding it to your entire site. Now, he's not activating it everywhere. But, he is adding it everywhere. There isn't any built-in "plugins specific to this sub-blog" mechanism. Therefore, it's really wisest to only allow site admins to add plugins to the system - ones that have been carefully checked and cleared as safe for all users.

That being said, you might be able to use one of the role manager plugins to give blog admins the install_plugins capability....

You realize that's a major major major security risk, right? A hacker could upload code that would take over your entire site with ease.

Best bet would be for you to install the plugins yourself, enable the plugin page for your blog admins and let them pick and choose between them.

Thanks andrea.
Yeah, I may have to wait until we go live to see if the plugin works with MU fully.
I guess it makes sense that the site's plugin is allowing it to see data on the outside, but maybe presenting this data on the inside only is causing trouble.
Maybe I'll try some similar tests, like SmartYouTube, to see if the firewall/setup is restricting my plugin.
I'll report back and let you know.
Sincerely,

Hello all,
I am a bit new to MU and have a few blogs up and running.
Today, I tried to use an old favorite plugin of mine, the Wordpress Flickr photo album plugin developed by Joe Tan (tantannoodles.com).
The install went smoothly, but when inserting Flickr content into a test post, I can't seem to click on the album icons properly.

Usually, when clicking on an album or "set" you get the set's title along with some other general info and a link to "view this on flickr.com". I don't get this information when clicking on an album/set and when clicking on "insert into post" no source code is generated inside of the post.

One useful bit of info on my setup is that my blogs are currently on a development server that is not viewable to the public. Could having this new server environment behind a firewall be keeping me from importing content into blogs/sites with the Flickr plugin? The plugin does see the albums/sets within Flickr and clicking on the various tabs in the pop up dialog box for the plugin shows other desired content, ex. "everyone's" photo streams.

I'm just wondering if that's the kink in all of this.

Any help or advice with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,
