Check in the wp_usermeta table. Look and see if it just says wp_capabilites for the users. it should be wp_X_capabilites, where X is the blog id. ( 1 for the main blog)

I have recently install WordPressMU and am moving a number of single WP blogs over. I have done all of the SQL exports and imports based on the directions found here (http://bavatuesdays.com/importing-a-single-wp-blog-to-a-wpmu-installation/).

Everything has worked like a charm, except... while I see all the users in the wp_users table in via myphpadmin when I go to the newly imported blog they don't show up?

How can I make those users active?

Big help. I have it all working now. Thanks guys.

dsader - options did the trick. I also followed the post in http://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic/15375?replies=2

Worked to help keep subscribers on blog 1 when new blog is created (this was confusing at first because I thought it was happening when users were added with no blog created.)

Thanks again!

i found this thread after posting my problem; users who create a blog are removed from the main blog.

http://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic/15375?replies=2

i have almost exactly the same issue, but none of the above solutions work.

thought i would create a link between the two topics in case this is useful for others in the same situation as me.

Apologies for the misunderstanding. I realized later by "I need to allow users to register to blog = 2", jlappas actually meant, upon signup.

It is my understanding that admins can use this setting to allow already registered site members to register for individual blogs.

jlappas, yes WPMU adds users to blog 1 automagically, if there is no "dashboard blog" set in SiteAdmin->Options. If blog 2 is your "Dashboard Blog" change the setting there and no plugins are needed.

Look for

add_user_to_blog( '1', $user_id, get_site_option( 'default_user_role', 'subscriber' ) );

in wp-includes/wpmu-functions.php

remove_user_from_blog should still work in a plugin during the wpmu_new_user action perhaps at a later priority, change "10" to 99:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/add_action

agreda's "users can register" suggestion shouldn't work as there is no blog by blog registration.php in WPMU. wp-signup.php redirects signups from the main blog only.

I need to allow users to register to blog = 2

Why not just allow them to register by setting the "users can register" value to 1 for blog id 2? Just visit /wp-admin/wpmu-blogs.php?action=editblog&id=2 and look under Blog options (wp_2_options).

Someone else might be able to confirm if this will do the trick, but I believe that is all that is needed to allow users to register for a specific blog. No plugin necessary! Good luck.

I need to allow users to register to blog = 2 but not automatically be added to primary blog = 1. I I have tried to use this code in mu-plugins:

<?php add_action( 'wpmu_new_user', 'ds_new_user_meta', 10, 1);
function ds_new_user_meta($user_id) {
add_user_to_blog( '2', $user_id, get_site_option( 'default_user_role', 'subscriber' ) );
update_usermeta($user_id, 'primary_blog', $blog);
}
?>

This code allows new users to sign up in blog 2 correctly but it also registering them for the primary blog 1. How can I get them to only register for blog 2 without being added to blog 1. I have tried adding a line to remove the user from blog 1 within this code but have not been successful. I think WP code automatically adds all users to blog 1. Can you please help?

I would like to limit users that log into my website via WP. When they log in, they can look at their profile, but if they go to Dashboard, they can see how many comments, wordpress news and other stuff not related to the website, or stuff I don't want them to see. Is there any way to hide the Dashboard from the users?

I am going to migrate 5 WP blogs to WPMU, as it is difficult to manage that many different blogs (updates, maintenance, ect..) and I have several more that I may be managing in the near future. I am new to WPMU and have a questions about how to make sure all the register users of the blogs get imported into WPMU.

Note: This is really only an issue with two existing blogs (others are low volume sites).

Going through the XML export of one of the blogs, I can not see how register users are "imported" into the db. Is there some way to import the registered users? I don't want to ask several hundred users to "re-register".

Could this be done with multiple DBs or is there an "advanced" import function I am just not finding? Documentation would be worderful, if it exists.

The problem is both procedures are dependent on the current user having the ability to "create_users" If we remove that, then new users can't be added via either method.

Could have sworn there was a trac ticket about this but damn if I can't find it.

I have read the documents, call me thick but I am having trouble grasping the idea. Maybe I missed something

With Users, how does this work..?
If admin owns the main blog and four sub blogs.
Users can sign up and are set to author in the hope they will contribute content to these sub blogs.

How do they sign up?
The sign up link seems to suggest that the signup process is site wide from the main blog?
Is each user automatically allowed to post to all the blogs?

I would like each user that signs up to have permission to post on all blogs, how do i do that?

Hello,

I have successfully mapped the content-profile from Drupal's tables to the buddypress xprofile fields and values. I've imported user content to:

wp_bp_xprofile_fields
wp_bp_xprofile_values
wp_users

Despite this, the users are not showing up in the site admin. I have not added the content to usermeta. Is this necessary? The content seems redundant. Is there an easy way to bulk add the information based on wp_users?

Hi,
Yesterday I was able to get new users added to my install of WordPress MU using the LDAP plugin. Everything was working very well.

Today I cannot. I have checked the LDAP connection and the 'test' shows a confirmation that its working.

If I proceed to 'Site Admin/Add Users' and fill in the username of someone I have confirmed is in the LDAP Active Directory and click 'add user' I get the following displayed:

User kbond added!

However, I then click on Site Admin/Users to see if they are indeed the user is listed and the user is not.

The only think I did yesterday was make a change to the database because I was running into a fatal error. Here is the link to the page of what I did. Anyone has ideas I welcome them:

Hi folks; I haven't been able to figure out a solution for these two problems:

First, I need already-registered users to be able to register on sub-blogs (e.g., as subscriber). The closest I've come is the WPMU Blog Registrations plugin, but that only allows unregistered users to create new accounts. Any hacking advice? Should I copy wp-register.php and make a new

Second, like many WPMU users, I need all users subscribed to blog 1 for certain plugins. I found this solution (thanks dsader!) for when users sign up themselves, but nothing that works when a sub-blog admin adds new users. So, even with dsader's fix, if the admin of blog7.example.com adds "newuser" in the back end, "newuser" is only subscribed to blog7 and not the main blog. Is there an action hook for admins manually adding users in wpmu?

FYI, here's the code i'm running (in /mu-plugins/), based on the thread I linked above:

add_action( 'wpmu_new_user', 'ds_new_user_meta', 10, 2);
add_action( 'user_register', 'ds_new_user_meta', 10, 2); // I added this to work with WPMU Blog Registrations plugin
function ds_new_user_meta($user_id) {
     add_user_to_blog('1', $user_id, 'subscriber');
}

Thanks in advance for your help!

I finally got this to work thanks for posting this in the thread above. BUT I Have a problem

using this PHP code

<?php add_action( 'wpmu_new_user', 'ds_new_user_meta', 10, 1);
function ds_new_user_meta($user_id) {
			add_user_to_blog('2', $user_id, 'subscriber');
}
?>

I have a main blog and a forums.domain.com

users now create a blog and is automatically added in the forum blog which ID is 2.

Now the problem is when new users sign the forums blogs becomes the primary blog and not the blog they have created. Is there a way to fix this.

Thanks

andrea_r, thank you for your reply..

The "subscriber" may not be so critical, but we will have about 200 moderators, editors etc.

And it's preferred that they have the main blog in their bloglist.

I didn’t know that they could comment anyway though, so that was very useful information :)

Thank you both for your reply...

The solution which dsader is proposing may be the fix i would use if there is no other alternative what so ever. The problem with this method is that these users may not be subscribers on the main blog in the first place.

So it would be far from a perfect solution because i then would have to manually give them their privileges back.

tdjcbe, we are using 2.8.4a and the ticket you referred to is in place.

I did try to put in blog id 1 in the admin page, but it disappeared after saving.. And it does say that it should be blank for the main site.

"I want to keep him as a Subscriber (or whatever) on the main blog."

For what reasons? Just asking, because depending on why you need them as subscriber on the main blog, it may be overkill.

Must be logged in to comment, for example, works for logged in users even if they are not subscribers to that blog.

Needing to email everyone is also handled differently.

Actually I remember a trac ticket on this previously but all I can find is this right off:

http://trac.mu.wordpress.org/changeset/1927

which is not it.

I could have sworn though this was resolved months ago. What version of wpmu are you using?

Stopping the delete stumps me.
Instead, try to add user to blog 1 anytime a new blog is created using this in mu-plugins:

<?php
function rage_subs_stay_on_main_blog($blog_id, $user_id) {
add_user_to_blog('1', $user_id, 'subscriber');
}
add_action( 'wpmu_new_blog', 'rage_subs_stay_on_main_blog', 10, 2 );
?>
