Hi All,
I'm a fairly experienced WP (not MU) developer and I'm working on my first MU project right now. It seems pretty straightforward, but I do have a couple of questions and if anyone can give me some insight that would be great.
1. I need to change the default user role from subscriber. Basically I want new users to be able to write an article and have it brought into the main blog. So yeah, basically I just need to change the default role. This is my client's decision to allow anyone to post I'm not even going to worry about what kind of chaos might ensue lol. I just need to make it happen.
2. New users aren't allowed to create blogs. The site owner wants to only allow certain community organizations to have a blog, so he will be manually creating these.
I am using the default categories plugin to bring over the categories from the main blog to the secondary ones. My question - since these blogs will have the same category, would it be possible to aggregate the content from the secondary blogs to the category page of the main blog? So for instance if all the blogs have a category of WordPress would it be possible to bring over all of the WordPress posts from all of the blogs onto the main blog's WordPress category page (or a custom page w/e)? I also would need to query these by date (or parse them by date after I've got them all).
The only way I can think of is to write a SQL query to get a list of all the tables in the database, find all of the post tables, loop through those querying each one and then parse them by date. This doesn't sound very ideal though, and would really kill page load time after there a large number of blogs and posts (trying to remain scalable).
Any thoughts or suggestions on either of these issues would be greatly appreciated.
PS - I'm using the latest version of WPMU
