Moving a MU installation from one host to another (3 posts)

Apologies if this has been answered before but I did not find it.

My problem: I need to move a Wordpress MU installation from one host to another. Obviously I can copy files and export/import the MySQL database, but since I have users for the system, I want to cause minimum disruption so I need to check that the migrated system works BEFORE I change the DNS settings to point to the new server.

Does anyone have a procedure on how to do this sort of operation?

rsync and change DNSs :) Of course, old WPMU has to be shut down before DNS switch.

I doubt you can avoid DNS propagation downtime.

Check your stats and find when traffic is at its lowest.
    Warn your users.
At the time of the move, block access to the site.
Do your magic, change DNS stuff and presto.

The blocking access part is important because you do not want people posting or commenting while you're in the process of moving the database. You'll lose a few things and people will get confused at best.
