Andy (apeatling) has released Buddypress beta 1 for download on route to the first release. It is best to test this out before ever trying it on a production site, but is pretty stable thus far:

Woo Hoo!
I'm running buddy press (from the trunk, not RC1) on this test site. I'm hopping some members of the community can sign up and kick the tires around a bit.
Thanks.
P.S. Thanks Andy and the entire BuddyPress crew.
I'll wait for final release ;)
We need a media plugin for Buddypress to make it number one open social network!
Can someone port Kaltura to BP?
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-video-pack/
What's the problem with this plugin?
There's is no problem, but it only works as a wordpress widget not buddypress plugin.
Therefore how do one integrate Kaltura with buddypress?
Buddypress is *also* a plugin for WordpressMU.
Don't see what the issue is here. Have you installed that plugin in MU alongside buddypress? If so, what happens?
It works on the blog section as a normal, but I want it as a buddypress plugin..
http://buddypress.org/
look at the site and see what I mean..there's groups, message etc! So a media section would be good
Then you need a media section in profiles, not just a video plugin. It's a bit different :)
That correct, any takers on this project with a bounty?
Anybody interested getting paid,by creating a media section in profile and can adapt Kaltura to it?

VentureMaker, Any update on my email?
There will be a media plugin added to BP later on (on the roadmap)
I'd recommend waiting so you don't have a cinflict when the new one comes out and users have to switch between the two but if you need it now I don't know what to say.
I'm not QUITE ready to use the BuddyPress homepage as the front page of my site. But, I want members to have access to the other goodies Groups, messages, etc.
How do I go about this? Simply not move the buddypress-home theme to the "themes folder"?
Thank you for your help. I am but an egg.
(obscure Heinlein reference).
OK, I'm getting the following error message on ALL pages when I upload the plugins to mu.plugins:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function site_url() in /home/blogpeor/public_html/wp-content/mu-plugins/bp-core/bp-core-avatars.php on line 18
Any thoughts?
Bumping ...
I think you should raise this on BuddyPress forum :)
I did, no reply. I've seen BuddyPress stuff discussed here before, so I thought I'd ask.
Bumping again. Thanks.
bumping this up, Thx.
everything working fine for me...
@billdennis5 site_url() is a 2.6+ function. You'll get that if you aren't running 2.6+.
sorry for not updating this myself. Yes, I know. I am using something a bit earlier than 2.6. So no BuddyPress for me until I upgrade .... which won't happen until after 2.7 comes out.
Thanks for the advice.
Which is bumming me out, 'cause I'm really psyched to make my site my functional and useful for citizen journalists.
you will love it when you finally can install it. its been only a few days but most of my users seems to love it.
