I tried checking their profile links but that wasn't very helpful in any case :-(

    I've not experienced that problem.

You've not done something silly like overwrite the .htaccess ?

    Hi,

I have the same issue. An example is here. Navigating to http://thenoices.com works just fine. However, click on a post title (to get to the permalink) such as this:

    http://thenoices.com/2009/01/09/hills-fourth-birthday-party/

yields a browser-provided 404. I haven't touched any .htaccess file, but that said, when I look at the latest release, there isn't a file, only a "htaccess.dist" file. I tried renaming that to .htaccess, but I got 500 errors on all the sites. You can see here the default htaccess listing:

    $ ls -la
    total 368
    drwxr-xr-x 5 bnoice pg1105224 4096 2009-02-03 19:30 .
    drwxr-xr-x 10 bnoice pg1105224 4096 2009-02-03 19:47 ..
    -rw-r--r-- 1 bnoice pg1105224 7636 2008-05-23 08:10 README.txt
    -rw-r--r-- 1 bnoice pg1105224 655 2008-08-22 07:50 htaccess.dist
    -rw-r--r-- 1 bnoice pg1105224 24630 2009-01-15 05:40 index-install.php
    -rw-r--r-- 1 bnoice pg1105224 398 2008-06-13 10:21 index.php
    -rw-r--r-- 1 bnoice pg1105224 15129 2008-12-08 10:10 license.txt
    -rw-r--r-- 1 bnoice pg1105224 4351 2008-08-25 04:15 wp-activate.php
    drwxr-xr-x 7 bnoice pg1105224 4096 2009-01-28 14:01 wp-admin

I'd love to see this cleared up. I had a basically clean MU install, and migrated this new site into it. Seems generally fine, except that there are missing links (like to NGG gallery pages ...), so I'm hoping that they are related and fixable.

    Thanks!

If you just renamed htaccess.dist to .htaccess you should change one line in it:

    RewriteBase BASE
    to
    RewriteBase /

My problem was solved: I forgot to upload my old .htaccess file.

I'm using MU and BuddyPress but all of my links give an error page:

We're sorry, that page was not found - Error 404

My posts show up just fine, it's just the linked pages.

    Any ideas?

    Andreao,

Everything works just fine from what I can see. Can you give some specific examples of pages that don't work?

Also, in the future, starting a new topic is helpful rather than dredging up an old one.

Tim, thank you. Sorry about that, should have started a new post!

It appears that it's just the BuddyPress pages that bring up the 404 error. Once I log in and try any of the BP pages I get the same thing.

I GOT IT. This should be posted for other BuddyPress users. You must copy all of the folders from the BP-sn-parent THEME to whatever theme's directory you are using. It has all of the needed files, folders, etc.

However, one small problem. The upper menu system for BP is a bit distorted now and not sure how that happened.

    Will keep searching.

You'll probably have to do a little CSS tinkering.
