How do plugins work in MU?

Getting ready to move an existing 2.01 WP blog (www.ncs-tech.org) to MU, then create about a dozen others we use at my school to be on this new MU box. Supporting these individual blogs is a lot of work.

For example, we use and love EditorMonkey (http://www.rajprasad.net/plugins/editormonkey/), but absolutely must have Skippy's 'Moderate Authors' plugin (http://www.skippy.net/blog/2006/01/15/plugin-moderate-authors/). I've asked both authors about the issue. I just need to understand conceptually how plugins work with MU.

I am assuming individual blogs will require individual installs of each plugin, right?

Or will a single 'master' install/config 'carry over' to all blogs created on the server?

    Thanks!

There's two plugin folders in MU. One is mu-plugins and ones placed in this folder are automatically activated for *everyone*.
In the regular plugin folder (only one in the whole install), these will be available to all users, but each user can activate the ones they want to use.

So that was sort of a "yes" to your last question. :)

You will have to check, or verify with someone running MU if the plugins you want will work. Most do, but a few require some simple changes. I've only run into a small number so far that need more work.
