I keep getting emails for reseting my password and I have not requested my password is it normal to get lots of these in a month? like half a dozen? just wondering if maybe there is someone playing with ways of getting into the WP code or truly people thinking they have the same username?

Happens all the time. I have servers that see thousands of hacking attempts every days. +1 for having very strong passwords.
You may want to drop down your admin account to not be siteadmin status. In fact many of our installs, the site owner never uses there real site admin account except for when they really need to.
