Hi, I'm trying to make a custom theme. What is the difference between archive.php and archives.php?
Also, say I have a blog called "/news/", Why is the index page loaded when the the url typed in is "http://news/"? I want it to load the default list of entries when I type this in.

archive.php is a template that is used to display you category archives, date based archives, tag based archives and posts with taxonomies..
archives.php is used to display links of your old posts. If you've got a blog that has been around for a long time and you've got alot of posts, i don't it's nice to just throw a long list of links to the user.
