Webmaster Tool (google) weren't able to verify my site (2 posts)

    I used WPMU for social network. I use webmaster tools of google.

    wwhen i verify my web, it did verified.

    We weren't able to verify your site. Did you upload your HTML verification file to this location

    But, i check file veryfy, i see it in my web.

    And google show that

    NOT VERIFIED
    Last attempt Jun 26, 2009: We've detected that your 404 (file not found) error page returns a status of 404 (Not found) in the header.

    if i dont verify, my web isnt remove attack site (google warning)

    Please help me

    I've been having a similar problem with verifying my WPMU site, but found the following note which sheds some light on what's happening:

    your site responds with a status code of "200 OK", whether the requested file actually exists or not. When Google tries to verify the site using the file verification system, it not only tries to retrieve the file it told you to post on your site, it also tries to retrieve a file that does not exist. So when your site returns the same status code for both requests, it can't be sure that you actually created the verification file ... If you want to use the file verification method, you need to contact your hosting service to get them to configure your site so that it responds with a status code of "404" when a file is not found. Otherwise, you should use the <meta> tag method.
