New Problem - Getting SSL to work on a SHARED server (1 post)

This problem may be looking even bleaker than the one I just resolved.

I'm trying to get SSL to work, but it looks like pretty much all of the forum items deal with private ssl (i.e. http://www.example.org turns into https://www.example.org). However, we're on a shared server with a shared certificate, so our SSL looks something like https://secure.ourhost.com/www.example.com/

I tried installing the Admin SSL plugin despite the fact that it says it only works on MU for private authentication and, I guess to no one's surprise, it didn't work.

The main problem that I'm getting right now is that if I go to https://secure.ourhost.com/www.example.com/any-url/ It just sends me back to http://www.example.com.

Again, I don't know if this is some sort of wordpress redirect thing or something that could be fixed in the htaccess file or what. The Admin SSL page makes it sound like that shared SSL is outright disabled for MU, but I can't tell if that's a Wordpress thing or just an Admin SSL plugin thing. If it is disabled in wordpress itself, is there a reason why, is there a way to "undisable" it, and if I did, what might the consequences be? Reading the Codex suggests that this might be something that I'd have to try to set up using htaccess or something.
