WordPress MU

I currently have an education blog and want to convert it to one where teachers and parents can blog, connect, etc. I'm looking at converting to Wordpress Mu and possibly using Buddy press. However, I want each of the member blogs to be integrated into the site like on http://www.gigaom.com. This site is using Mu and Buddy Press so I'm assuming there's a way to accomplish what I'm looking for:

For example, here's a listing of the Gigaom "analyts":

Here's an example of the blogger page:

Another great example I'd like to follow is at http://www.lumberjocks.com. I have no idea what platform this site is on but again, each individual blogger's content is integrated into the site rather than appearing on different looking individual blogs.
