Hi there, before I install WP, I'd like to know if it can do what I want it do. ;-)

What I want to do is this:

    - People should be able to create their blog, but be limited to the same theme. (should be no problem)

    - I will use BuddyPress for community interaction.

    - People will have to geo-code their post. This is essential. There should be no post on any of the blogs without geocoding. (Is this possible? If yes, how?)

    - I want to show newest blog posts from all blogs on the homepage. (Suppose, this works)

    - I want to show newest galleries on the homepage. (Does NextGen Gallery work with WP MU and BuddyPress?)

    - I need city pages. Let's say there is a Washington page. I want people to go the Washington Page and see all posts which are geocoded as belonging to Washington. (Can this be done? If yes, how?)

    - I need a voting system across all blogs for posts. This means, all users should be able to vote whose post is the best. (nero voting, up and down) I want to display the top posts. (Can this be done? If yes, how?)

    - I need a voting system across all blogs for "best picture". This means, all users should be able to vote who has taken the best photo. I want to display the top pictures. (Can this be done? If yes, how?)

Thanks in advance for helping me decide if WP MU fits our needs!

Why not just categorize the blogs? Users have to "geocode" their whole entire blog on signup. the plugin can be used to pull all the posts from the washington blogs.

Uh, unless you want one blogger to be able to be in different places for different posts, in which case my idea sucks. :D

@tomandsteve - you may want to check-out gMaps and see if this is something you can use to achieve what you are looking for:

However, be warned, we are a commercial company offering paid subscription based support with our products, but they are entirely GPL based, which is why we are also featured on the WordPress Commercial Theme Company section - http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/commercial/

Please feel free to drop by our website and ask us anything you like, or visit us at BuddyPress.org - http://buddypress.org/community/members/thepremiumpress/

My name is Mark Smalley, and am one of the guys that work with ThePremiumPress - In the VERY LITTLE spare time I have available, I also work on gPress, which is hosted in the WordPress.org plugin directory and is a free plugin that adds new geo-relevant layers to the press platforms so you can geo-tag your surroundings or develop your own location-based services...
