Permissions? Trying to install theme (7 posts)

Hello, I couldn't install a custom theme as I kept getting a notification about the parent directory having the wrong file permissions.

So I changed the permissions of the /httpdocs/wp-content/plugins and /httpdocs/wp-content/themes folders to 777. Then I read that I really shouldn't have needed to do that, can someone recommend a better configuration?

In addition, whilst using FileZilla, I um unable to view the .htaccess file in the home directory, even though I have been to the options menu, Server > Force showing hidden files. In the remote file list, at the bottom, the status panel states the four files are hidden and this is one of them. What am I doing wrong?

    Thank you for your consideration.

You shouldn't have had to do that if you were putting the files on the server as a user that plays nicely with Apache. Who owns the theme files?

Also, does anyone have any idea why the page has a break at the bottom? I've only just noticed it, but can't work out what I have done that has caused it.

Who owns the theme files? What do you mean?

Instead of changing permissions on the folder, you need to find out who on the webserver owns access to the folders themselves.

your webhost support may be able to help.

Thank you for your suggestion, what should I ask them?
