After installing Wordpress MU, I try to register and create a new blog. An activation link http://panjil.blogsuccessor.com/wp-activate.php?key=094b3b33b66952a0 was send to my email. When I click on the link it return a Page Load Error with the following error detail. Please advise how to solve this.

    Thanks.

Your wildcard subdomains aren't set up. Please read the readme files.

thanks andrea. I found the text below in the readme files, but Im no techie...what the hell does it mean???

    DNS
    ===
If you want to host blogs of the form http://blog.domain.tld/ where
domain.tld is the domain name of your machine then you must add a
wildcard record to your DNS records.
This usually means adding a "*" hostname record pointing at your
webserver in your DNS configuration tool.
Matt has a more detailed explanation:
    http://ma.tt/2003/10/10/wildcard-dns-and-sub-domains/

I looked at the website listed and It may aswel be in German! I just dont understand why the process of installing mu is so difficult compared to the install of single user using fantastico, clicked one button and it worked!

Because it's server-level software is why, and more complicated.

Ask your webhost to enable wildcard subdomains for the domain you install MU at.

ok just had a chat with hostgator, they showed me how to add the subdomain *, but it still doesnt work..(however he didnt understand why and agrees that the problem is the wildcard issue) He said that i need to uninstall wpmu and re-install it! its taken me 3 days to get this far! I had to convince one of the hostgator tech guys to install it for me in the first place coz it just wasnt working, I think im back at square 1.....bad times. No idea how to uninstall either!

however, if its any help to fatjim, what should of worked is to got to your hosts cpanel, find the subdomains, and enter a new subdomain named * and thats it, just the star. Aparently that should of worked...it may work for you.

Hi Nick, thanks for the earlier advice. After request my host to setup the wildcard subdomains, I manage to activate the new account. But when I try to view the page http://panjil.blogsuccessor.com/ ... It end up on another apache page http://panjil.blogsuccessor.com/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi . Do I miss out anything?

I guess its not just me that it doesn't work for then! Pretty much the same thing happened to me, I got a page from my host come up, but still I dont know how to fix it. However it does seem that the error certainly lies with the wildcard issue. Im sorry I cant actually help fix anything because Im no techie myself, I can only share experiences and pass on what Ive been told by others. Im somewhat stranded now being that I have no Idea how to fix it, my host don't offer support for WP, I dont really know where to turn, but if you find a solution I would much appreciate if you can post it here.
    Regards
    Nick

Yes Nick, it is working now. As far as I know my host told me that they will run a script to setup the wildcard domain. After they did that I can activate the new account but cannot access to http://panjil.blogsuccessor.com/, when I check back here I saw your post saying that it is working. I try to access again but it is still not working, then I clear the "Cookies" and "Offline Website Data" on my PC... and now it is working!!!!
