WPMU Subdomains Restrictions / Problems (3 posts)

    I installed WPMU on my account at WebFaction today. I'd like to know whether it's possible to set up blogs with multilevel subdomains. Hopefully this example will make clear what I'd like to do;

    I have subsub.sub.example.com pointed to my WPMU installation. This works fine - I can log in to wp-admin and see the primary blog at this address.

    I've enabled subdomains and set up appropriate wildards. Now I'd like to be able to add new blogs with URLs such as:
    http://www.example1.com.subsub.sub.example.com
    http://www.example2.com.subsub.sub.example.com
    http://www.example3.com.subsub.sub.example.com

    I've added one such blog (let's call it http://www.example1.com), but when I try to visit it, I am redirected to subsub.sub.example.com/wp-signup.php?new=example1.com

    So, is it possible to add new blogs with multilevel subdomains? I changed the URL of the example blog to www_example1_com.subsub.sub.example.com and it works ok. I can live with that if it's not possible to do it the way I'd like.

    Not out of the box, no.

    Use a domain mapping plugin and you can do it, or even a multisite plugin. that how I did a site that used city.state.maindomain.com/

    Thanks for the tips. What is your experienced, professional recommendation for a domain-mapping or multisite plugin?
