I'm using WP via Edublogs, but I can't find the place where you can manually write alter the html yourself. Does anyone know where this is located?
I know this sounds lie a really obvious question but I've been looknig all over on the site and I can't find it.

You need to be discussing that within Edublog's own support system. These forums are not for the endusers but for the admins running the software.
Sort of walking into the US President and his cabinet and trying to get a parking ticket fixed. :)
If you as a blogger want control over your html, WPMU may not be for you. This sounds like something for which more conventional WordPress would be better suited.
I say that a dozen times a day at the Wp.com forums. Never sinks in. :(
