.htaccess help needed (2 posts)

For some reason, blogs with URLs containing a "." don't work correctly. (e.g. http://www.mywpmu.com/john.smith). Blog content is loaded, but not the theme, and wp-admin is not found after logging in.
When I rename the blog to http://www.mywpmu.com/johnsmith , all is fine. My guess is that this is a .htaccess issue, but since I'm no good at regular expressions, I'm at a loss. Ideas, anyone?
(They would like to have URLs such as http://www.mywpmu.com/firstname.lastname) so I'm trying.

... simple solution, don't accept blogs with dots.

complicated solution, modify the htaccess to filter dots... but will bring problems, as files have dots before their extensions...

tell your kids to use "-" instead of "." ... the internet is made by so, not by users wishes...
