    Hi,

I have just tried to install wordpress mu and have a few problems.

First, when I register my account details, I am not getting a password sent via email. Not sure why...

Second, when I am taken to the wordpress MU site that has been generated, it seems to not be able to locate the CSS file. I am certain that this is becasuse in the code the CSS file location does not have www. at the start.

Not sure why this is so importantt to leave out the www. - but my site does not work when the www. is left out. Does anyone know why this may be? and if so how to resolve?

Here is the link - http://www.macmillan-academy.org.uk/blog_mu/wpmu/index.php

My web address is - http://www.macmillan-academy.org.uk/ - If you try loading this site without the www. you will find it doesnt load.

    Help much apprichiated - thanks

    Adrian

MU strips off the www by default. It's in the htaccess file and it's really dependant on this.

    Hi,

You need to check how your webserver and DNS are setup. A domain name is defined as not having the 'www' in there. If you're requiring the www to be within your URL, other things won't work. Like the missing CSS and all that. That's why you're having the issue. Adding the 'www' bit pulls the CSS right up without issue.

And we need to know what webserver and DNS you're running for us to help you.

As to the email, best bet would be to check your email logs.

    Hi,

After consulting our technicians it turns out that macmillan-academy.org.uk/ is the "domain controller" and that cannot be changed. As I as a user do not have access to the domain controller, thats why I do not get anything displaying. AND thats why the css cannot be found.

I do not understand why it needs to strip www. out of the address. It didnt need to do this for a normal wordpress blog setup - so why does it have to do it for mu? Is it becasue I have choosen sub-domains, instead of sub-directories?

We have another domain name that I am going to try wordpress MU on so I will let you know.

    Thanks

    Adrian

    Hi Drmike,

To answer your question I work for a school and they have their own webserver which is Server 2003 - as is the DNS.

    Any help to you...

Still cant understand why I havent recieved a confirmation e-mail? Do I need to have an e-mail server set up on my server for it to work or somthing?

    hi adeking,

if you not want to strip "www.", you must modify .htaccess yourself.

Please ask your techs if the domain is set up as macmillan-academy.org.uk, why doesn't http://macmillan-academy.org.uk work like it should?

The DNS is incorrect. It's setup with the www. That's what is causing the issue.

    Please point them to:

http://dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=www.macmillan-academy.org.uk as it even says that it can't find a correct A record. Also http://dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=macmillan-academy.org.uk doesn't work as the your domain's nameservers refuses requests for it.
