Do you heard of software which can read text in any application and convert text to mp3, wav, ogg or vox files? I known one - Alive Text to Speech (http://www.qweas.com/download/audio_mp3/text_to_speech/alive_text_to_speech.htm), but it is not a free software, i can use it for 20 days.

Do you recommend a free software?

    Thank you!

I'm not aware of any free ones. I had one with my old original SoundBlaster card that I bought back in *cough* when I was in college.

    Ok, question?

I have some experience in this field, having worked with adaptive technology for a few years. But, due to the topic of this forum I wonder about your intent?

Are you going to be using it to create "audio" captcha you can script? or do you want it for people to be able to read your blog?

Anyone remember the old Apple Text to Speech program, simply called speak?

Chances are you don't have a mac so lets look at other options:

The industry standard (for disabled assistance) is JAWS or Zoomtext.

Both of these products are designed for people with low to no vision. Starting at $700 and up at last check.

As a more resonably priced option check out:
    Coolspeaking $24.95

Someone added a modlook to this thread. I think it's fine as the links are answering the question posed.

Check out http://www.yakitome.com. Free text to speech with the best-quality voices (much better than free MS voices) and lots of content to choose from. Easily convert any electronic text to MP3 files and then download to your computer or iPod. You must request an invitation to use the site during beta test period. I highly recommend it.
