The MU forums have moved to WordPress.org

htaccess, 200, 301, and 404 redirects .. what a head ache! (1 post)

    Hello world!!

    After about a bagillion WPMU installs, I finally have everything working peachy-keen. My friend is a SEO and suggested I make some mods to the site to make it more SEO friendly.

    So, after installing the SEO title tag plugin (which now works for MU and I highly suggest people use!), I began to notice that for some reason, google had some of my broken links still indexed!

    He sent me this link:

    http://www.seoconsultants.com/tools/headers.asp

    to allow me to figure out what was going on. Basically, because of the rewrite rules, all broken links send the following messages:
    302 Found --> 302 --> 200 OK

    I've been reading the forums and the .htaccess issues, I even read some tutorials for mod-rewrite, but my brain is small :(

    What changes should I make to the htaccess file to allow 404 page not found erros, rather than redirect everything to wp-signup.php?
