    background:
i started from scratch to get he subdomain install to work. installed version 1.3 of WPMU with no problems on a new mysql 5.0 database. i've setup the wildcard DNS properly with my DNS servers. (i can ping anyting.domain.com)

    the problem:
when a new users signs up for a blog, they can't activate from the email. it takes you to a 404 error page from the web host, not the theme.

    error:
    Error 404 - Not found
The document you requested is not found.

    ideas?

Well I know my host said they would but never did...and its been a few days...but I just found out I can goto cpanel, goto create subdomain enter * as a subdomain, and add it myself that way.

tks everyone, looks like 1and1 fails again. talked to tech support and they won't implement the apache wildcard info. might be off to another web host.

goto create subdomain enter * as a subdomain, and add it myself that way.

    That's for DNS, not Apache.

Apache, you have to modify the config files.

    httpd.conf

    and add:

    ServerAlias *.domain.com
