anyone know of anyway to convert uploaded media files like mp3 and flv to media gallery into players directly instead of links in the post

in wpmu the podpress plugin does work, as well as other podcast type players.

check both wpmudev.org and the wordpress plugins repository here for plugins that would match your needs.

I cannot get podpress to work with wpmu? I am using subdirectories instead of subdomains any suggestions

PodPress was limited with WP 2.5, and broken to bits in 2.6. There was something on their forums about a new version in about 10 days, but that was the middle of July.
