Did i setup MU correctly? (16 posts)

I just setup WP-MU and it looks a little off...I created a new blog:

    http://blog.getpaidinstantly.com

once i created this, it says the login is:

    http://blog.getpaidinstantly.com/wpmu

but when i actually go to the blog:

    http://blog.getpaidinstantly.com

nothing is there but the website, the user login is:

    http://blog.getpaidinstantly.com/wpmu/wp-login.php

whats up with this? I even added the wildcard...

so the blog user can only access his blog here:

    http://blog.getpaidinstantly.com/wpmu

I thought the user would be able to see his blog
by going here, not my website.

    http://blog.getpaidinstantly.com

    any ideas on this?

Did you install MU in the root of your site or in a wpmu directory?

It's in a wpmu directory. It won't show up where you want it unless you put the files *in that directory*.

And currently you have Joomla there. Pick one.

I guessed it was, but I was trying to get them to realise it on their own :)

the blog is intended to go along with the website, not replace the website...

    when you go to:

    http://www.getpaidinstantly.com
(yes you should expect to see joomla, because
that is what I have there.

    when i go to:

    http://blog.getpaidinstnatly.com
I expect to see the users blog, and not joomla, if
i wanted to see joomla, then I would just go
    to the website directly getpaidinstantly.com

are you telling me I have to have one or the other
one my website...? so if i have a website, I can not
have use the blog, if i use the blog as a tool, then
I can not have a website...?

If you want to use sub-domains and don't want to have to mess around with complicated mod_rewrite rules, or attempt to have both codebases in the same directory.

You could install MU in the blog subdomain itself, so the main MU site will be at blog.yoursite.com, but then any users blogs would have to be at either user.blog.yoursite.com for sub-domains OR blog.yoursite.com/user for sub directories.

I wonder if it would be possible to redirect all wildcard domains...something like:

    user.getpaidinstantly.com would redirect
    too like:

    user.getpaidinstantly.com/wpmu/

so that why when someone goes to blog.getpaidinstantly.com, then they would not even
see my domain, it would just direct to there blog.

I also have one more question: is it possible to setup multiple themes, and bloggers can select their own
    theme?

    appreciate the help

"is it possible to setup multiple themes, and bloggers can select their own theme?"

    that's built in.

MU is server-level software, and while you could integrate it with joomla and do redirects and whatever, your answers here show that it's more than you can take on. MU is designed to be a blog farm, not an add-on to an existing site.

you might be able to find someone to do what you want, but it would also be expensive.

Thanks for your help, but please stop giving that self rightous speech (this is to much for you) people come here for help and ideas, and not for speeches like "this isnt for you" Bla, bla, bla...you have no idea what I can take on. I bet people like you get off on telling people, you cant do this, this more then you can handle, if you want to exam someones life, take a look at your own.

Um, I'd have to say that if you don't grasp the concept that if you put something in a subdirectory and expect to call it at the domain/subdomain root, then it's a pretty fair assumption that you have some skills to brush up on.

If your apparent shortcomings bother you when someone suggests that it may be more than you can chew at the moment, then it's not they who need to do the examining.

You will find that most people won't BS you around here, and will make darn sure you know what you're getting into.

You have a subdomain, and you should install it in the root of that subdomain. From there, your best bet is to then use subdirectory mode, or you'll end up with a 4 level domain (user.blogs.domain.tld).

What you would "like" to do, install on blogs.domain.tld, but have user.domain.tld is possible. However it isn't something that should be attempted except by a professional as it requires many modifications to the MU core. Which, in turn, will definitely hinder the upgrade process.

no, that is not what I am saying..I did install in root so the user would have something like blog.domain.com but I do not want the blog to be the sole purpose of the domain, other stuff is planned for the domain also...I do not care of if MU is in root, as long as i can use root for other home page content, i want users to have blog.domain.com but i need domain.com for other content, not just the blog.

You have a website at: domain.tld (using that nasty joomblah thing)

You want MU homepage at blogs.domain.tld (or whatever subdomain you want to use)

You want users blogs at: user.domain.tld

You do the above, or you can dump joomblah (yay!) and use MU as your main site. Oh yes, MU can serve a main website, while its subs blog about.

If you don't want to change the current main site at domain.tld, then what I said (that you quoted, and I restated above) would have to be the way its done. Which, as I said is possible, etc., so on, and so forth.

people for some reason seem not to like joom-bo
what CMS do you recommend? Ive already removed
Joom-bug, but I do need a good CMS for another domain,
it was never planned for this one anyway.

Um, if you're building a site with MU and/or WP, why not just use it?

"I bet people like you get off on telling people, you cant do this, this more then you can handle, if you want to exam someones life, take a look at your own. "

Um, wow. Thanks. Maybe you can poke around and find out about my life before *you* start making assumptions.

"I do not care of if MU is in root, as long as i can use root for other home page content,"

Like Lunabyte said about, you can use the main blog of MU for non-bloggy-like content. WPMU has been used on site where most people don't even realize it's a "blog". The content you want there can be handled by MU just as well as any other CMS.
