Migration from WPu 1.2.4 to WPu 2.6 (12 posts)

    Hi guys,

I just migrated from 1.2.4 to 2.6 using the "Upgrade Site" button in the "Upgrade" tab of the "Site Admin" in 2.6

Now the categories don't appear properly in the new blogs 2.6, even if there is the right count of categories / posts per categories, the category name is always empty.

On top of that, all the wp_*_categories* tables have been deleted, replaced by wp_*_term* tables

If I add a category after the upgrade, it appears correctly. The problem only appears with categories created before the update.

Any idea ? Did I run the upgrade from a too old version ? Did I need to run an "intermediate" upgrade ?

    Thanks for your help,

Ok, according to http://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic.php?id=9094 - it appears that is better to run an incremental upgrade with WPu versions prior to 1.3

I'm gonna search for information, I will let you know

    Interesting resources:

    Upgrading from 1.3(2.3.1) to 1.5.1 or 2.6
    http://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic.php?id=8929

    Going from 1.2 to 2.6?
    http://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic.php?id=9094

I upgraded from 1.2.4 to 1.3 and then 1.3 to 2.6 and it worked great !
The categories are back at the right place.

Is it OK to go from 1.3 to 2.6 ? Is it recommended to updtate from 1.3 to 1.5 and then 1.5 to 2.6 ? (I didn't notice anything wrong from 1.3 to 2.6, except the dbversion of one of the blog which has not been updated - but was for the other blogs)

    Thanks for your help,

    Best regards

I ALWAYS prefer to upgrade step-by-step not missing anything :)
    If I'm on 1.3.3 - I'll upgrdae to 1.5.1 first, and ONLY THEN - to 2.6.
    After 2.6 I'll upgrade to 2.6.1
This is just to be on the safe side :)

    Nice recommendation

Finaly I followed your advice, and the upgrade is Ok (even if I don't see any difference with the upgrade from 1.3 to 2.6 - but it's more careful)

On top of that I fixed the blog which was not updated in the DB (needed to upgrade the memory limit in the PHP config)

Shame on me, indeed that's the most complete resource I should have read !

On top of that it is in the Readme.txt, I have no excuses

Sorry guys for bothering you with my request while a RTFM was needed ! and thanks a lot for those who have kindly replied to my post despite the existence of the instructions in the the Upgrading page.

Is there a release archive for wpmu as there is for wordpress: http://wordpress.org/download/release-archive/ ? If yes, where is it? I want to upgrade from 1.2.3 to the most recent, so I'll need the inbetween versions.

    http://trac.mu.wordpress.org/

Browse the tagged version and there's a zip download link at the bottom of each page.

In doing this process. Do you guys always got through each blog one at a time .. and disable each and every plugin?
(thus can be a very lengthy process when you have a lot of blogs)

Or do you rename the plugins folder? And then just turn them back on?

How do you guys usually handle this?

    Thanks

    Jeff!
