Making Main blog invisible to Search Engines? (6 posts)

    Hi there guys, Ive got a question regarding Search Engines.

    What do you think will happen if I make my "Main" blog invisible to search engines by setting Privacy Options to "allow normal visitors only" while all other blogs I would set to "allow normal visitors & search engines".

    How do you think search engines would react to this? Will they not index main blog (http://domain.com/) and index all other blogs (http://blogs.domain.com)?

    We are creating a list of featured articles on the main blog and I dont want this to be seen as duplicate content by Google...

    If you have featured articles on the front page and they are dupes of a single post within a sub-blog, that's not the hyped up "duplicate content".

    I've found Google *loves* MU installs. Seriously.

    You can do it with a meta tag in your homepage theme:
    <meta name="robots" content="noindex" />

    but i would recommend you let google index your homepage for obvious reasons ;).

    mrbrain - changing the privacy options puts that nofollow in there. :)

    but you definitely want google to follow stuff off the main blog.
