Hey, all -- I'm trying to figure out if WPMU is the right way to do what I'm trying to do, or if I should use plain ol' WordPress.
I want to set up a company Web site where each of our departments has its own section that its employees can maintain.
I thought I would use WPMU, and give each department a "blog" that would serve as a content management system, all under a single roof.
But one thing they'll need to do is share posts across blogs. That is, I'd like to create categories that pull content from every blog.
For example, if both the marketing and professional standards departments put out press releases (i.e., posts in the "Press Release" category), the "Press Releases" category on the main page should pull in both of them.
Can WPMU do this? If two blogs have the same category names, can some sort of main blog have access to both of them? Or are they completely separate entities that just happen to have the same name?
Essentially, I need visitors to be able to go straight to the marketing department's page, or show all items in a particular category across departments (e.g., press releases).
I thought about using WordPress for this, with each department having its own category, but WP's permissions system would allow people from one department to make changes to another department's stuff, and I wanted to avoid that.
I hope this makes sense. Is it possible?
Thanks!
