I'm trying to use a premium theme that requires me to know the number of my categories in order to get them to show up where I want them on the front page. I'm currently running 2.6 ... and nowhere in my admin pages to I see the numbering scheme for my categories.
How do I find out?

Go to Manage-->Categories, hover over each category and look for the cat_ID# at the end of the url in the bottom of your browser. The # is your category number.
I think there is also a plugin available that lists the category IDs.
