I've just installed WPMU on my live site and before putting anything into the site, I noticed that every request was using 100% CPU usage.
Is this normal for the CPU usage to be so high?

A stock install with nothing changed wouldn't do that. Well, unless you're trying to run it on a ][e, or a C64. *joking*
While MU can easily be made to use resources, not stock without anything really happening.
