    Hi,
I have a blog running in normal Wordpress, and I need to upgrade it to MU saving the posts, tags...

    How can I do it?

    Thanks

Just export your previous blog using the export option, then import after you've installed WPMU. Make appropriate backups of your database and files before you remove it of course.

Make sure you read the "Is WPMU right for me" thread in the installation forum.

but through this way there are chances of lose of database. Is there another way which is more simple than it because we donot know which files to save and which not.

No, this *is* the simple way. The not-simple way is here:

And always make a backup of your database and the files under wp-content.

I'm wonder why folks aren't setting up their mu install under a different domain and using one of the domain mapping solutions to put their original blog into a subblog with the original domain.

I really think that would make more sense.

You'd still have to move the content though - the idea of that is what's tripping people up.

Some people still think MU is some sort of add-on plugin.

I could have sworn the wordpress importer was moving the files over as well. Must be thinking of another platform.

    It did. It does.

By content, I mean the entire WP blog - entries and such. Some people think all they need is a plugin or work some magic and presto - their WP site is "upgraded" top WPMU.

When the reality is, you have to completely move one to the other.

Yes, it is quite tricky to get it running properly, however i've managed to do it manually, and documented the method below.

Hopefully it will be of use to someone
