    Hi there:

I've been trying to get this fixed for over 2 weeks and I am begrudgingly admitting defeat.

    the situation -

I have wordpress 2.7, on godaddy hosting. When I try to attempt changing the URL from the default I get a "page not found" screen.

From what I've read there seems to be a lot of talk of .htacess. I understand a little about this, but not a lot. What I do know is that there was no .htaccess file in my folder. I have since changed the permissions in my folders so that writing is enabled, but wordpress has not automatically created one.

I created myself and made sure mod_rewrite was on, but I don't know if that is enough. Do I have "apache"? Is there anothe mod_rewrite related code that I need to put in?

Would LOVE to get this fixed so I can move on the million other things I need to do. Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for reading!

    Research Update:

So the way Godaddy has the "unlimited hosting plan" setup I have one main FTP account (www.mainaccount.com) and then I can have "unlimited" accounts off of that.

In this example my wordpress site is at http://www.mainaccount.com/site1. I go into my backend system and tell godaddy that I want my domain (www.site1.com) to point to http://www.mainaccount.com/site1. When I got to wwww.site1.com I don't see anything about http://www.mainaccount.com, and it seems to be cool.

The reason why I brought this up is that I was testing around differet things and noticed that if I can the URL in my WP back office "settings" from http://www.site1.com to http://www.mainacount.com/site1 it works.

Obviously the re-routing has something to do with the problem. If anyone has insight on a solution for this I would love to know. Thanks!
