Home page loads but links to sub-pages say Could Not Find Blog (17 posts)

    Greetings,

Hard disk crash (main RAID array). Had to recover from backup to another hard drive. Both the Apache/PHP files and the MySQL databases have new homes. I seized the opportunity to upgrade to WPMU 2.7 so several thing were changing.

Pages load OK, but the rest is a mess:

    • clicking on "more" or a blog title results in "blog not found" fatal error - funny it could find the blog to load the home page but not the standalone blog entry pages.
    • pages (not blog entries) load fine (see Cumpston "about" on the blog below)
    • login's result in return to login page
    • one blog no longer has metadata (login) widget

I suspect this is a permissions or a config error. Can you help?

Here are three blogs to look at:
    http://MLDfamily.org
    http://daniellesacchetti.mldfamily.org/
    http://blog.cumpston.us
note that http://blog.cumpston.us/archives/302 gives the blog not found error. Post 302 and the blog both exist.

    Best regards,

    Dean

What PHP file is called when you click on the title of a blog entry to go to the dedicated entry page?

I am thinking that following the code might help me find the missing or invalid data the is making by blogs go haywire.

I have got the same problem..

i guess in my case, new directory for a blog is not getting created and thats why its not able to find the path to the newly created blog.

on clicking visit the blog... it searches http://mysite.edu/wordpress-mu2/blog_name, but cant find it... as no sub-directory named blog_name gets created...

do let me know if u get any success..

And it won;t create a physical subdirectory. The blogs are virtual. They exist only int he db and the addresses are served up via rewrite rules with the htaccess file.

I am having this issue - home blog loads, but sub-blogs do not. The dir it's pointing to is '/a/blogname' - but it's not loading them. I think my .htaccess file may be incorrect, but I'm not sure what line to fix. Is there an example file somewhere here that I could look at it, searching hasn't come up with anything.

    Thanks!

look at the htaccess.dist inlcuded in your download.

Also, check your server. Do your main blog's posts work?

I check the htaccess.dist file and it is exactly the same as my .htaccess file. The main blog, does work. Thanks for your help, I am hosting this on bluehost and have searched around on their forums as well, and there are folks successfully hosting wpmu there.

What I did - I moved the install from a sub-dir to the main web directory. I exported the database file and did a search and replace and recreated the tables in the database. Everything else seems to work, just not any user blogs. I've tried creating them from scratch, etc, and still no go. I'm happy to provide any files you want to see if willing to check it out for me!

    I really appreciate it!

I reinstalled buddypress and I'm still unable to view the sub-blogs. Getting a generic 404 blog not found error page. htaccess file looks right.

http://buylocalbuildafuture.com is the site. I will keep searching for a solution.

    Hi,

I have the same problem. The main blog works but the sub blogs doesn't work with page 404 error and my forum thread is

'Multi-blogs with Page 404 not found error'

@telecal mod_rewrite isn't on your server, or it;s not reading your htaccess file. Put
    AllowOverride FileInfo Options
in your httpd.conf in the vhost for your web account. If that's all Greek to you, tell your webhost support your permalinks aren't working.

@stopha - I can't even tell where your member blogs are even supposed to be, but your permalinks DO work, which is good.

@jimmy - check the permalinks on the main blog, like the About page. Does it work?

@andrea - I think I got it, the ability to create blogs was disabled and therefore, no news ones could be created or viewed. I'll keep banging on it, but I think I got it for now! Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

    My home page is http://hkhkglxblo1/blogs/
It seems that other links in the home page are not working, too.
    Entries (RSS) - http://hkhkglxblo1/blogs/feed
    Comments (RSS) - http://hkhkglxblo1/blogs/comments/feed

Any subdirectories under http://hkhkglxblo1/blogs/ are not working.
