Hey umm I tried installing WPMU on my server.
I currently DO have a working regular WP installation on the same server.

So I upload files via FTP (2times..) and go to the URL where I installed it/index.php.

AND there's that cool lil message that tells me that I need to create a config file. I press the button. ANNNDDD I get the exact same message.

I've uploaded the WPMU and even downloaded it again...to no avail.
    ...help?

I'm starting 2 think maybe it has something to do with the current blog installation..

single WP installation is in the root dir
The WPMU installation (not working) is uploaded to a sub dir.

Is the problem my regular WP installation trying to figure out the URL and screwing things up????

That is possible but not probably. For example, I had a blog at http://www.zyrot.com and installed at http://wpmu.zyrot.com Now the zyrot.com blog is gone but there were no install problems. Depends on subdomain or subdirectory I believe.

    You sure you uploaded wpmu?

Yes. It's auto-detecting the other WP install and trying to build the config file from that. The message you got about creating one is the kicker - that only shows for single WP, not MU.

You have to remove the single WP config file long enough for you to install MU.

Why didn't I have to do that? Is it because different subdomains have their own docroot?

Depends on your server. Did a write up here:
