OK. I'm going to down grade to 2.7.1 which I've got backed up.
I've lost the ability to toggle between Visual and HTML mode and even odder I can't go and edit old posts. Any text I put into them is just thrown away.
Edited to add: I down graded to 2.7.1 and its fine so there is something not right with 2.8.1.
