Extra ads showing up with no coding. Help Please (6 posts)

Over the past week I have had some mysterious Google Ads popping up in random places throughout my site. These ads are not coded into the page like the other ads. This means i can't hunt down the code and remove it to fix the problem. They are the same skyscraper ads i have in the sidebars of sites. When I go to a page, right click on it, and choose View Page Source it shows me the code for the entire page. I can see the code there, and it is actually the correct AdSense codes.

You can see examples of the ads on the following pages.

http://www.worldblogosphere.com - Here it is at the bottom in that dead space below the footer. Some times it is not visible because there are 3 other ads on the page which is the max for Google Ads and makes the rest disappear. The space however always remains where the ad would be.

http://www.tlcorbin.worldblogosphere.com - on this site you can see the ad at the bottom of the page in the same position, but this one actually shows.

    One final example -

http://www.extraordinaryintelligence.com/about/ - Now on this page it shows up directly over the content. You will notice after the page is entirely loaded that the ad will pop up just to the right of center on the page, and you have to scroll just a little bit.

Does anyone have any clue how I can fix this. It is just plain annoying on some pages, and overall causing problems on the pages where it covers stuff.

    Thanks for any help,
    Gene

On the blogs in question, find the theme they're using and check that theme's functions.php file.

    Hi Andrea,

    Thanks for responding.

I have checked 4 of the sites in question and don't see anything out of the ordinary. Just things like header image info and registering sidebars.

The main site actually only has 4 lines in the functions file which register the sidebars, nothing else.

    Any other ideas?

Also while I have your attention... I just upgraded to 2.8.1 (this was just tonight that I upgraded so it has nothing to do with the ad problem.) and now i can't get into the Admin area again. I know I used to know how to fix it, but can't find the post on this forum about it. The address is showing up doubled again. Can you tell me how to fix it again? It is ... http://www.worldblogosphere.com"/http://www.worldblogosphere.com/"//

    Thanks again for the help.

    "Any other ideas?"

Check your plugins? :) Did you install any ad serving ones and forget? :D

Well the only ad plugin I have in use is one where I need to include a small line of code where I want the ad to appear. not seeing that code anywhere near where these ads are showing up, and know I haven't put the code there.

You'll have to comb over the files in your install and look for anything suspicious.
