Hello,
After first attempting to install via the browser-based Installer (due to my own mistakes with permissions I think), I deleted ALL the WPmu files from my server and re-uploaded. After that, I go to mydomain/index.php and I get the ol' "Error establishing a database connection". What happened and how can I get the Installer back? Or, can I just edit the htaccess and wp-config files manually?

When you delete installation for re-install, delete the .htaccess file and the wp-config.php created during the first install and re-upload WPMU, then run installation.

somehow i ended up with the old config and htaccess file that was created during the initial installation. not sure how i missed that, but i'm not surprised. thanks mercime for telling me what i should have already known. best -- erin
