Themes with layout/design options used on WPMU (13 posts)

Many WP themes comes with a number of options for changing certain parts of the theme such as background colour, header, h1/h2 background colour and so on. These changes can be done from the admin area, not by editing code manually.

If I upload one such theme to WPMU, will each blog owner that choses this theme be able to manage these design options individually or will two or more blogs that use the same theme conflict with one another?

I have found a number of themes, which I will ask our external hoster to make WPMU ready. But this is pointless if each individual blog owner cannot take advantage of the design tweaking features.

The themes I have found are:
    arclite
    blogtheme
    fusion

This may be an awfully naive question, but I'll pose it nevertheless.

    All the best,
    Anders,
    Denmark

The theme options set will be unique to each individual blog.

And it works quite well. :)

Thanks. That's what I thought. Anything else would be silly.
But still, if the theme has not been developed for WPMU use, you never know.

    Cheers all,
    A

The only things in themes that aren't MU-ffriendly are:

    - hardcoded elements that expect to user to edit files
    - sometimes options pages don't save right (only came across this once)
    - timthumb script on sites using sitewide tags plugin won;t pull thumbnails.

But as a straight-up theme, *any* WordPress theme works on MU. There's no MU-specific templates tags.

@andesteg - I looked at the Fusion and Arclite themes for myself (I'm always looking for new themes), and I noticed a slight problem with them for WPMU. The image header doesn't use the wordpress api for custom image headers and the uploaded image gets stored at a non-standard location. This may not be a big problem for you, but it could cause you maintenance issues later.

(Of course, the likelihood of you even seeing this post is probably very low.)

Oooo, that would explain his issue then.

    Andrea_r, you said

"sometimes options pages don't save right (only came across this once)"

Can you tell me how this was resolved? I am running into this problem with our WPMu install where users cannot save their theme customizations.

Hmmmm..... I can't remember what theme it was now.

Is it a *particular* theme that's not saving these options properly?

We've got a few, pretty common ones I think.

    Misty Morning
    Barthelme
    K2
    Paperback Writer
    PhilNa

Are the ones we have tested and confirmed.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Those should work, and on other WPMU installs I've done they have worked. Hmmmm...more digging....thanks.
