    Hi.

I've just installed my first multiuser WP at http://www.mysite.com
Creating new blogs, it's automatically created subdomains like blog1.mysite.com, blog2.mysite.com.

My question is: Is it possible to have http://www.myblog1.com point to blog1.mysite.com and http://www.myblog2.com point to blog2.mysite.com ?

I don't want to use blog1.mysite.com anywhere on my site, just http://www.myblog1.com.

And how / where would this be done?

Yep. Get the domain mapping plugin, follow the instructions:

    Thanks Andrea.

I'm still having some issues understanding DNS and all that.

A domain will be registered with a 3rd party ISP.
Then we have to set the name servers for the new domain, and then we have to set the CNAME to point to correct location.

So why do I need a plugin like the one you suggest?

Because that's what help MU handle to domains when it gets to your WPMU install.

    A thought struck me.

I set up wpmu on domainOne.com.
Adding a new blog, I will get blog1.domainOne.com.
Using the suggested plugin, I will be able to use domainTwo.com instead of blog2.mydomain.com.

    So far so good, right?

Now, I want to install a forum on my new site, and I create a subfolder called forum.

So now I can access this through domainTwo.com/forum.

But what happens if I want to access is through a subdomain like forum.domainTwo.com? Will the plugin do anything to this?

No, if you have a cpanel install and create a subdomain at forum.domainTwo.com that points to your forum directory then this will take precedence over your WPMU install.

Or in simpler language. Your webserver will send the forum traffic to the correct directory before WPMU gets to look at it.

    Ah, ok. Thanks.

So would you recommend me using sub-folders of sub-domain method when installing wpmu?

I've seen some threads on the subject, but I'm non the wiser :)
