    Hi all,

this is once again troubled nights over the installation and upgrade related issues with wordpress.Ofcourse once installed i never face any issues...

PROBLEM: I read this article from mashable.com http://mashable.com/2009/09/05/wordpress-attack/ and also saw an alert message on the Dashboard of www.dr-lokku.com/docblog (which is WordpressMU 2.7.x version) saying that new version of wordpress available(2.8.x version)...[no mention was there whether the upgrade was for wordpressMU or simply wordpress]

I still have a doubt why wordpress and wordpressMU act as different entities when it comes to plugin, theme installation if both of them are having same code.

Anyways, what i did was I installed the "Automatic Upgrade" plugin and tried installing the upgraded version of wordpress i.e. 2.8.something by just following the steps mentioned in the site.I have taken all the backup ...of the previous code(2.7.x) and the database..but what happened now is I have upgraded to 2.8.x version but it somehow doesn't seem to be connected to the database where the existing data is there...

What have I done ??? Have I installed Wordpress 2.8.x (non MU) over wordpress 2.7.x(MU version) ????? :(

if not , why the newly upgraded wordpress doesn't seem to be connected to the old database where i have all the data (it's user generated data...and it's huge)

All i see now is a HELLO WORLD Blog with this stupid message in the sidebar :

Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_current_site() in /home1/collegm5/public_html/drlokku/docblog/wp-content/themes/ringbinder_mu/sidebar.php on line 76

I mean this http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade/ when I said "Automatic upgrade" plugin ...not the one which was already available by defalut...

I tried the defaultly available upgrade button also for which I was facing the problem mentioned in this post
    http://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic/13506?replies=32

Unfortunately I didn't see the above post before doing the "Automatic Upgrade" plugin...

My client is panicked ...over the loss of blogged content over three months

Yes, you installed single WP. Yes, your data is fine. It's in the database.

You did backup before upgrading, yes? Like it said to?

Go get the latest WPMU here:
    http://mu.wordpress.org/download/

Remove all the WP files on your server EXCEPT for wp-config, .htaccess adn the entire wp-content folder. Make sure you leave those.

    Upload the WPMU files.

If necessary, restore the backed-up database from before when you upgraded initially.
