WPMU in the root directory and WP in a subdirectory = problems? (2 posts)

Several months ago I installed standard Wordpress in the subdirectory "blog" on my site. Then, last night I installed WPMU in the root directory, creating a new database for WPMU. At the time, everything seemed fine. Then several hours later my blog site started loading extremely slowly. Now, the blog is gone and when you type in mydomain.com/blog you get the setup page from WP right after you install it for the first time. When I log in to my server, I can see the database with the WP install, and I can see all the files in the blog subdirectory, so they haven't been deleted somehow.

Is WPMU interfering with the WP installation some how? Or do I have another problem?

Did you install WPMU with subdomain (vhost=yes) or subdirectory (vhost=no) structure?

If installed in subdomain structure, I could only see a problem with either of two scenarios: if you placed single WP in directory but placed index.php of that WP in root OR if you opted to have a static front page in in the main blog of your WPMU install (blogid 1) e.g. http://myWPMU.com/ and placed blogs in Settings in a Page named "Blog" thereby creating path http://myWPMU.org/blog/ over your single WP /blog/

If installed in subdirectory structure, have you checked Site Admin > Options - that "blog" is a Banned Name?
