database connections/line break errors (7 posts)

Hi, in addition to our RSS error we are experiencing two others. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, we routinely get database connection errors. But everything is properly set up. The error will just randomly appear as you're try to move to another part of the site. And each time, a simple refresh takes you to the actual page. Any reason for the consistent errors, though?

Also, suddenly several sites are showing no paragraph breaks -- the issue is confined to several posts strangely enough and in the backend the paragraph breaks are still showing in the editor. there was a server reboot we feel is the issue. Any ideas?

    Thanks again

You're using WPMU version 2.7.1? Try upgrading to 2.8.4 and read through http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_My_site_was_hacked to make sure you weren't subjected to the worm attack described there.

Oops, my fault, Accidentally just clicked the last option in the version selection, assuming it'd be the most recent. We're actually running 2.8.4a

What host are you on? Intermittent db connections errors point to the host. maybe you don't have enough memory allocated to your account.

    Ah, ok.

You could be running into MySQL's connection limit. In MySQL's configuration, set the max_connections=X higher (recommended is around 200).

Were the posts that are not showing paragraphs breaks ones that were imported from MT? If so, try copying the text out to a text editor, delete the post, clean up the text in the text editor, and then creating the post again. Sometimes there are phantoms in the DB that cause issues.

No, the Movable Type posts aren't in question. This is an ongoing issue that is only affecting some posts on -- from what we can ascertain -- some blogs. And of those blogs, the issues persist even upon creating a new article.

You'll have to have someone sitting on top of the site watching, via shh and doing a top. (if possible)

Is the db on a different server?
