WordPress MU

I want to create a wordpress blog for my town and integrate a forum i already run for it. i want to show photos, and would like to develop the buddy system.

Do i need WP MU or just basic word press?

Depends. Will you need to have multiple blogs or one blog? WPMU is usefully if you want to have one physical install, but allow multiple blogs that different users can access, write to, etc. Straight WP will allow you to have one blog that multiple users can have access to.

Currently Buddypress only runs on WPMU. If you want to use that now, then you need MU.

If you want to wait until the merge, then it will run on WP. (Jan, Feb or so...)

i want to run one blog which users can look at. So looks like WP is the thing for me.

So buddy press is coming out for WP in the new yr. Sounds good. Any idea who i should ask regarding the release date?

There is no set release date for that yet.
