    Hi there,

I just finished designing a site by combining WP single + BBpress + a static HTML page in the front page. The Blog is not n the root. Everything is working fine; however it is wrong concept  since my intention was to offer Blogs spaces to companies under my domain in this way:

    http://www.mysite.com/company1
    http://www.mysite.com/company2
    http://www.mysite.com /company3

Each company should be restricted to its own space without having access to other users and keeping its information away from other users too. Companies should be free also to create sub-pages as follow:

    http://www.mysite.com/company1/subpage1
    http://www.mysite.com/company1/subpage2
    http://www.mysite.com/company1/subpage3

    The questions are:

    — Is it necessary to run a MU version to achieve that structure or is it possible with the single version?
    — Is it possible to change from Wordpress single to Wordpress MU without having to start from the beginning again? (it was a pain to get working exactly the same layout in all pages!)

    The site is: http://www.severus.es/

    Thanks

    Severus

"Is it necessary to run a MU version to achieve that structure or is it possible with the single version?"

Right now, you need MU to offer blogs from a single install.

You will currently need to reinstall WPMU instead of WP, but - if you mean getting the layout right, that's the theme. It works the exact same way. Save it. Move it from the WP install into the WP install.

    Hi Andrea-r

    Thanks for your answer.

Followind what I se in this forums, it seems that to change from WP to WPMU is not an easy task.

However I have read in the news that in the near future the WPMU will be integrated into WP. If it is true I rather will wait until it happens and just upgrade the verion of WP.

Yes, it is true. It will be in version 3.0, which as a guess may be March. When you upgrade to that version, then you will have to enable multiple blogs.

My prediction is that it won't just be a simple switch though. It may eventually get ironed out to be simple, but I'm betting that in 3.0 that the only interface for it will be during install and that while it may be possible to cojole it into switching to mu mode via modifying the wp-config and htaccess, it won't be trivial.

(That's a little challenge to wpmuguru and donncha to prove me wrong! :p )
