I just intalled WordpressMU today - when I try to search for a theme I get the message "An unknown error occured" and when I try to install a plugin from the admin I get the message "An unknown error occurred"
Any idea what could be causing this?

This is also an issue present with single WordPress with the auto-installer. It means the folder permissions or group ownership is not allowing the files to transfer over.
Everything seems to be working now.
Hm. I have run across this happening to many people 4 months ago. I am currently getting this on two different websites on two different servers, one new wp install and another that used to work fine.
Maybe there is something wrong with the theme search path? It is hard to tell since the error just says "A unknown error occurred" when I search for themes or click on "featured" or "newest". "Recently updated" returns no themes found.
It just started working again, both servers/sites!
